Unpopular opinion but blaming a crime on postpartum psychosis is like a man blaming his testosterone for rape. Hormones aren't an excuse for horrific acts. The victims are 3 innocent babies. Enough of this crap.
Women are out here making the argument that their hormones make them so crazy that murder is justified, without apparently considering what that argument actually implies about women.
Yes, postpartum hormones can influence mood and mental health. Postpartum psychosis is also a real, documented psychiatric condition.1) It’s very rare (1/2 per 1000 births) 2) neither womanhood nor hormonal fluctuation automatically eliminates agency or criminal responsibility.
Even an insanity defense requires evidence that a person’s mental condition met a specific legal threshold at the time of the crime and not simply evidence that she was postpartum, hormonal, depressed, or mentally ill.
For most of Western history, women were explicitly characterized as irrational, emotionally unstable, and intellectually inferior because of their reproductive biology. “Hysteria” itself was historically associated with the uterus, and women could be institutionalized under extraordinarily broad standards.
So when you argue that a woman’s reproductive biology can make her so fundamentally incapable of controlling herself that she shouldn’t be held accountable for killing someone, you’re resurrecting exactly the premise that female biology makes women less rational, less autonomous, and less responsible for their own decisions than men. It’s the same logic used to excuse black murderers. “They could not help themselves.”
You can’t have it both ways.
Either women are autonomous adults capable of equal participation in society and deserving of equal justice under the law, or we’re fragile creatures governed by hormonal madness who cannot reliably be trusted with the same agency and responsibility afforded to men.
If you genuinely believe the Clancy defense, you’ve constructed a better argument for the paternalism of the 19th century than most 19th-century men ever could.
Congratulations!
Prosecutor Jay Town on Tyler Robinson: “I haven’t seen a stronger murder case in the 20+ years that I’ve served in the prosecution business, and I prosecuted well over 10,000 defendants and investigated and prosecuted hundreds of homicide cases, to include death penalty cases.”
“All of these ridiculous conspiracy theories would have been brought out at the prelim because the whole goal is to not have the most significant charges, like murder, bound over for trial. So every theory that was available to the defense could have been brought up, and they never brought up the fact that it was somebody else.”
“The mom and dad are going to testify. The sheriff’s deputy is going to testify. Twiggs is going to testify under oath about the admissions that Tyler Robinson made to them.”
“I’ve never seen evidence this strong.”
“The fact is Charlie Kirk was murdered because of his political viewpoints by Tyler Robinson. The evidence is overwhelming, and even Tyler Robinson’s parents know this.”
So @JayTownAlabama, who prosecuted 10,000+ defendants over two decades, says it’s the strongest murder case he’s ever seen.
Any other prosecutors want to weigh in?
Here is my list of the evidence (documentary and testimonial) presented by the State during Tyler Robinson's hearing. Because this is a probable cause hearing where all reasonable inferences from the evidence will be drawn in favor of the State, I have described this evidence consistent with the State's interpretation of it because that is how the court will consider it for PC purposes.

This exchange between @thevivafrei and @aburkhartlaw is VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION for anyone following the Tyler Robinson case.
At the preliminary hearing the defense had the legal right and strong incentive to present any evidence of framing or fabrication. They did not do so. ***That fact undercuts the public conspiracy theories circulating about the case.***
Remember this? We should be talking about it.
Candace made a true crime documentary series with the Daily Wire in 2023, examining a prominent murder case and the cult-like community of people who believed it was a wrongful conviction and fancied themselves the real investigators and defenders of justice. She debunked them. She showed how and why they clung to obvious falsehoods and their free-the-disgusting-murderer cause. She condemned them as easily deceived, easily manipulated, bored, and looking to manufacture purpose.
And then she took everything she learned and duplicated it.
