Sunday’s NASCAR Cup Series race at Texas averaged 2.286 million viewers on FS1 — down a sizable 11% from last year (2.560M).
It’s the least-watched Spring Texas race on record & the eighth race of the season to decline year-over-year.
The broadcast is big part of this. Guys in the Sunday booth put you to sleep. It’s like they’re scared to say bad things about the drivers? Think of Inside the NBA with Shaq and Charles. If a guy sucks they’re honest and say so. Not the same in nascar for whatever reason.
First thing #NASCAR needs to do to get the fans back on board:
Lower admission prices. Why are tickets $135 if the stands will only be half full?
My local NBA team has tickets for $12 some nights. Fill the stands first, then raise the prices.
@miguel_fer94488 Packed? Or just more than the past few years. Packed is sold out crowds. That on TV make the event look like a big deal. They’re not selling out
@Michael95494331 Michael I’m not demanding anything. I’d just like to see the sport grow. I have friends who aren’t into nascar who wouldn’t go this weekend because of the price. They openly said they’d go for $75. Why are we turning away potential new fans? What races have sold out this year?
@keithjamesNC I see. But what other sporting event or concert doesn’t sell out? Then the remaining tickets are resell. That determines what people will pay. NASCAR should be working with these tracks to grow the sport. It would benefit everyone.
@CptsOrders NASCAR wants to grow just like every other sport. You can say it’s a bad comparison, but any other sporting event or concert lowers ticket prices until they sell out. Then the only available tickets are resell.
