Today in the Friday Wrap (register here: https://t.co/Mzfs8YnZDC), we wrap up our series on the people who make the transfer portal "go" by providing the feedback received from #NIL agents on the P4 GMs they respect the most. Arkansas' Gaizka Crowley (@Gaizka_UofA) is just one of the former Scouting the League guests who got glowing comments from their peers across the table. In fact, we were overwhelmed by the response, and received way too much content to fit in one place.
To read about the nine GMs who got the most praise; several more who were also notable; and a short list of "the next wave," based on comments from NIL reps, make sure to check out today's edition of the Wrap (goes out at 7:30 pm EDT) and today's Rep Rumblings (https://t.co/jkTCOMvZZI).
U are listening to the wrong ppl then! There is 1 goal post for greatness & it’s making good decisions and making plays - they go together!
Drakes INT was a good decision just a bad throw, those things happen… and we should say, “you have to make that throw”, while also knowing we all miss from time to time, but it was the right thing to do!
@UNC_TarHeelFan Few QBs anywhere are worth $7 million a year. Top NFL backups demand that much; no more than a few college QBs should get it, including those not in the portal.
I guarantee I would find a QB for less who will produce as a starter.
@rmcgill25 Reaching and missing on a QB can cost a franchise as much as simply not having a franchise and using a bandaid.
Honest evaluation matters and a willingness to (at least try) talk yourself out of a player
There are SO MANY factors that go into a draft pick being "successful" or not for that franchise.
But at the end of the day:
Scouts know more than us.
Teams know more than us.
They will be right more than us.
For those that forget, College Scouting from the NCAA to the NFL is:
Projection
Development
Scheme Fit
Personal character
Football Character
Trait evaluation
Production
Medical
Mental aptitude
Analytics
Body Type
(just to name part of what goes into a report)
If each of these were weighted evenly (which they are not), non-NFL team scouts (including me) - have maybe, at most 30-40% of these questions answered.
NFL Scouting is hard.
Most NFL Scouts work really hard to get players right.
What players will ownership keep for the new GM?
Do guys like Ed Dodds and Matt Terpening have a chance to become the GM?
Does the scouting staff have to dive deep on QB's who were not previously fits for a Ballard team?
So many questions....
#ScoutingtheLeague
The Colts do not currently have a GM -
So...
Is the owner the one making trade decisions?
Can Steichen realistically save his job when they are going to (likely) unload some of the better pieces?
