Today, the UK Right To Food Commission has written to the Prime Minister raising urgent concerns over rising food insecurity, increasing food inflation and reports of potential dynamic pricing for food in supermarkets.
With 14 million people across the UK already living with food insecurity, we are calling for immediate action to protect families struggling to afford basic essentials.
Our message is clear:
* Food is a human right, not a luxury.
* Dynamic pricing for food must never be introduced.
* Household incomes must rise for those most at risk.
* Support for community food hubs and grassroots organisations must be strengthened.
* Excessive profiteering while families go hungry cannot continue.
The evidence gathered by the Commission across Liverpool, Newcastle, Aberdare, Cardiff and Belfast shows that food insecurity is driving health inequalities, damaging life opportunities and deepening poverty in communities across the country.
We urge the Government to act now.

🚨 BREAKING: The gap in life expectancy between people living in the UK’s poorest and wealthiest areas has grown to 20 years.
Worryingly, most areas across the UK have seen healthy life expectancy fall since 2012.
This isn’t right. Everyone should be able to live a healthy, secure life - no matter where they live or how much they earn.
From today more children in the UK will gain access to the food they need to thrive as the two‑child limit is lifted. Our evidence sessions so far show this will help to move thousands of children out of poverty. Thanks to our Vice Chair @IanByrneMP for standing up for children and families in Parliament. #RightToFood #EndChildPoverty #FoodJustice

This morning, I was pleased to receive assurances from DEFRA Ministers that they will work with the Right To Food UK Commission to help change the disgraceful fact that 14 million people in the UK currently face food insecurity.
The genuinely shocking outburst from the benches opposite reveal precisely why we are in this situation in the first place.

Across every corner of the UK, food banks in our community are seeing severe hardship.
❗️ 2.6 MILLION food parcels were provided last year alone.
But which areas are facing the highest levels of need? Let us explain…
📢⚠️ New data shows #foodinsecurity levels are rising across the UK.
🔹 More than 1 in 9 households are struggling to afford healthy food
🔹 53% of food insecure households have cut back on fruit & 40% on veg

Everyone should be able to keep their home warm.
Everyone should be able to afford to put food on the table.
Everyone should be able to afford the essentials.
Re-post if you agree.
The Guardian has reported targeted attacks on farming communities that experts say were intended to prevent villages producing food.
The fields once fed an entire region until they were burnt down.
Every single child deserves nutritious food so they can grow and play. For nearly three years, children in Sudan have been facing unimaginable violence and trauma. They're losing childhoods they can never get back. They deserve peace.
The UK Government must:
- Do everything it can to ensure perpetrators of these horrific crimes are held to account
- Dial up pressure on all warring parties and their international backers to secure a lasting political solution
- Push for an immediate end to the violence
Millions still face hunger as hardship drags on.
📦 2.6 MILLION emergency food parcels were provided across the UK in 2025
👶 912,216 of these were for households with children
📈 That’s still 45% higher than pre-pandemic levels
Inflation is easing, but hardship isn’t. This isn’t right - and it doesn’t have to be this way.
