Thats a complete lie! He is lying in his interviews because he isn’t allowed to openly talk about his original ending due to his contractual obligations with his publisher. A couple of Redditor's have uncovered Isayama's unrealised original ending by digging deep into the manga and analysing and piecing together several hints and clues! We were supposed to get multiple basement level twists in the final chapters. HE was forced to abandon all of it! AoT has always been time loop story the entire time and there are tons of evidences pointing towards previous timelines where things played out differently. Mikasa and Eren have been rewinding time and trying to end the titan curse. And Karl Fritz is the mastermind behind the entire plan with Tyburs working alongside him to excute it. They were all working towards liberating Ymir and ending the Titan curse. Y'all should definitely read the whole thing!

Few points from the theory:

• Karl Fritz wasn’t the suicidal idiot we see him as. He had a plan.

• The entire story revolves around the termination of the Titan Curse / the liberation of Ymir Fritz.

• Ymir isn’t allowed to find out about this.

• The first (and only) breach on Wall Maria was an inside job conspired by Karl Fritz and the Tybur family.

• The Trost boulder is almost perfectly sized to plug the hole in Trost’s gate, yet Armin states the military has no way of moving something that large. If nobody could move it, who put it there?

• According to KFT, the boulder was deliberately placed there by Karl Fritz (or one of his successors) using knowledge of future events to ensure Trost’s survival.

• Attack Titan’s true purpose was never freedom. Its real role was to preserve Karl Fritz’s plan across generations until someone could finally bring it to completion. Eren was that man.

• Eren was originally intended to be something far different than just tragic slave to freedom.

• Eren altered his own behavior and memories to keep Ymir from discovering his true goals.

• Example: During the prison scene with Hange, Eren is completely uninjured, yet he starts emitting electricity as if he is about to transform into a Titan. But you cannot do that without injuring yourself. KFT argues that he was actually wiping his own memories at that moment so Ymir wouldn’t discover his true intentions.

• The Rumbling is a form of shock therapy intended to push Ymir into terminating the Titan Curse.

• Many characters unknowingly had roles imposed on them in service of Karl Fritz’s plan.

• Lara Tybur intentionally lost to Eren so he could inherent key memories to execute the final phase of Karl's plan.

• The story’s timeline has been rewound multiple times. There’s plenty of evidence pointing toward previous timelines.

• There’s evidence for a timeline where Erwin Smith survived.

• The horror on Eren’s face after kissing Historia’s hand wasn’t caused by a single future memory. He witnessed an entire history of failed timelines and realized that every previous attempt to end the Titan Curse had ended in failure. The story we follow was supposed to be the timeline where Eren finally succeeded.

• Mikasa is believed to possess Royal Blood, and as an Ackerman of royal lineage, she is believed to be the key to unlocking the Attack Titan’s full powers, to trigger a timeline reset.

• KFT’s key evidence for Mikasa’s Royal lineage is in Chapter 50 (Season 2, Episode 12). Eren activates the Founder’s power and commands the Pure Titans to attack Reiner even after physical contact is cut off with Dina, the Royal Titan. KFT argues that Mikasa herself was acting as the Royal catalyst that allowed Eren to access the Founder’s power at that moment.

• The phrase “See You Later, Eren” is not a farewell but an acknowledgment of the cycle itself. Mikasa expects to see Eren again because, she knows they will meet again after the timeline reset.

• Mikasa’s recurring headaches are believed to be moments where fragments of those previous timelines bleed through, making her one of the few characters subconsciously aware that events have been repeated before.

• These headaches happen at key moments in the story when Mikasa is meant to make a different choice and change the course of the current timeline instead of repeating the same mistakes from the previous failed timeline.

• One such example is the Serum injection event. When Levi decides to revive Erwin, Mikasa gets a headache and attacks Levi. Her little rebellion along with Eren results in Armin being revived instead of Erwin. KFT argues that this suggests Erwin was chosen in the previously failed timeline and Mikasa’s subconscious memories are influencing her to change the outcome this time.

• The first time Eren consciously transforms fully into the Attack Titan during the Trost Mission, he attacks Mikasa, injuring her. KFT argues that this was a subconscious attack driven by anger carried over from the previous timeline, where Eren successfully ended the Titan curse by sacrificing himself, but Mikasa simply could not accept his death and reset the timeline, wanting to try again and find a way to end the curse without Eren having to sacrifice himself.

• Eren and Mikasa's Story to supposed to end on a positive note with both of them working together to end the titan curse.

• Up until its final chapters, the story was building toward a series of foreshadowed plot twists on the level of the Basement Reveal.
