I think it will be good to see a separate 10,000m championship to qualify for the World Championships, and it will certainly give athletes an opportunity to compete well in multiple events, but why wait until only 2 months before to announce this?

@KedgeAric This is not to discredit the amazing performances, but what makes records special is that we don’t see them set very often. It seems like one is getting broken every other day right now, which takes away from the excitement when it becomes such a common occurrence.
It’s obvious the super-shoes are changing the sport. The recent performances have been incredible, but a 13:00 5K today is not the same as it was in 2019. I’m not saying we’re comparing apples and oranges, but we’re probably starting to compare red apples to green apples.
@KedgeAric Too many records across the World, U.S. and NCAA that are being broken in such a short period of time, many of which are not “set-up” races. I’ve suggested since 2020 that every NCAA record at commonly run distances will be broken in the next three years.
