Today is the scheduled monthly test of the outdoor warning sirens in Riley County. This is only a test.
Sirens will sound around 10:30 a.m.
During an emergency, if you hear the sirens SEEK SHELTER INDOORS IMMEDIATELY.
4 PM update: Severe storms are forming and congealing into a line near the dryline. Large hail, damaging wind gusts to 70 mph, and a few tornadoes remain possible for much of eastern KS. Stay weather aware this evening and be prepared to take shelter if a warning is issued.#kswx

Gusty winds and low relative humidity will lead to VERY HIGH FIRE DANGER this afternoon.
Very high fire danger will likely continue into Saturday and Sunday. We also have a chance for thunderstorms late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.
3/19/2025 NO BURNING IN RILEY COUNTY
Strong winds gusting to 60+ mph will create high fire danger again today. No outdoor burning is allowed. Please continue to take precautions to keep the community safe from wildfires.

3/18/2025 NO BURNING IN RILEY COUNTY
Fire Danger is EXTREME again today. Keep up the good work to:
✅Check any recently burned areas for rekindled fire
🚭Dispose of cigarettes the right way (not out the window)
🔥Check for any dragging chains on vehicles that could spark
Extreme Fire Danger will be expected this afternoon as very dry air and gusty winds set up across the area. Do not burn outdoors, dispose of cigarettes properly and report any wildfires to local authorities. #kswx

3/17 NO BURNING ALLOWED
Weather conditions will create EXTREME FIRE DANGER today and tomorrow. No burning will be allowed. Southerly winds will increase to 15 to 25 MPH, with some gusts of 30 to 40 mph both days.

The brownish color in this satellite image (circled in yellow) is blowing dust coming from TX and wildfire smoke in OK. Strong SW winds are gusting 50-60 mph. We've gotten reports of reduced visibility from this. You may also smell smoke from this heading into the evening. #kswx

Continued dry, windy, and warm conditions mean any fires could get out of control quickly. No outdoor burning will be allowed again Tuesday, March 11.

Emergency Management will conduct a test of the outdoor warning sirens in Riley County today at 10:30 AM.
The regularly scheduled test happens the first Monday of each month, weather permitting.
