These thoughts keep me awake and accompany me to sleep.
I see the possibilities beyond the horizon. I see what we can become. I see flourishing. What do you see? Where do you stand? What will you do? End
We need a critical mass of men and women who are ready to do the heavy lifting. Who carry leadership as a sacred duty. Not for fame or fortune, not for malice or retribution, not for tribe or sect, but for humanity.5
We need leaders that eschew luxury while poverty ravages the streets. We need leaders who live by sacrifice in solidarity with the reality of the people.4
We need meticulous thinkers and planners, and ruthless executors. Not populists who say all the fancy stuff but have zero capacity for planning and executing for the long term.3
We need a new kind of elite across Africa. We need a sufficient number of people who are angry with the suboptimal standard of living of our citizens and willing to put in the sacrifice to uplift our people. 1
I watched Zootopia 2 with my kids yesterday.
While they were cheering for the bunny and the snake, I was mesmerized by the urban planning.
In the movie, the mice have tiny vehicles. The giraffes have massive kiosks. The hippos have water channels.
They don’t build "One Size Fits All." They build "Right-Sized Infrastructure."
It hit me like a ton of bricks.
In my company, we are failing at this. We are committing the sin of Hardware Equity.
We give the same $3,000 MacBook Pro M3 to our Senior AI Engineer (The Elephant) as we do to the Junior Copywriter (The Mouse).
The Engineer uses 100% of the CPU. The Copywriter uses Chrome and Spotify.
Giving a "Mouse" employee an "Elephant" laptop isn't generosity. It’s Capital Expenditure malpractice.
So this morning, I launched "Operation Zootopia."
I ran a script to audit CPU utilization across the company.
If your average daily CPU usage is under 10%, you are classified as a "Rodent Tier User."
I confiscated 40 MacBooks from the Marketing and HR departments.
I replaced them with refurbished Chromebooks and 2nd Gen iPads.
They were furious. They asked, "How am I supposed to work on this?"
I told them what the movie taught me: "You don't build a highway for a hamster. You build a tube."
We recovered $120,000 in hardware assets in one morning.
Stop giving Ferraris to people who only drive to the grocery store.
Nature doesn’t waste resources. Neither should IT.
I begged her to leave Lagos. Sent her to her cousin in Enugu.
She blocked me the next day.
I thought she was angry.
Then I got a call from her number.
But it wasn’t her voice.
It was his.
“She’s with me. Drop the story.”
I dropped it.
I shut my laptop. I left Lagos.
But the guilt followed me. I knew I’d let them win.
Then… one week later, I saw her again. On TV. Standing next to the LGA chairman. Smiling. Holding up a mic. “Ada Ayeni New Special Adviser on Media Affairs.”
I should’ve walked away.
But I remembered the farmer. His children still fetched water from a muddy stream.
I returned the envelope. Posted a picture online. Caption: “I’m not for sale.”
Two hours later, my Twitter account was suspended.
That night, I went home to find my apartment door open.
Nothing stolen.
Just a photo on the bed:
Me and Ada my girlfriend.
Drawn in red ink across it:
“EVERYONE HAS A PRICE. HER LIFE IS YOURS.”
