Russians sent a drone carrying their tricolor rag and planted it on the roof of an abandoned house in Kolodiazne, Kharkiv region, just to film some propaganda claiming they had captured the village.
But their little PR stunt didn’t last long.
A Ukrainian drone destroyed the russian rag, and then one of our soldiers proudly unfurled the Ukrainian flag to remind them whose land this really is.
They can fake a victory on russian TV but they can’t fake control on the ground.
PUTIN'S GENERALS CLAIM VICTORIES THAT EXIST ONLY ON MAPS WHILE UKRAINIAN FLAGS KEEP RISING 🇷🇺🇺🇦
A Russian general reportedly told Putin that Dobropillia had fallen. The problem? The supposed victory appears to have consisted of an infiltration team reaching a coal mine, raising a Russian flag for the cameras and withdrawing.
Colonel General Andrei Ivanayev is accused of ordering his troops to turn an exaggerated battlefield claim into reality "at any cost." Even a tribute from a Chechen general suggested the price of reaching the designated location had been extraordinarily high:
"Dobropillia taken. On the map, one more dot. Only you had to get to that dot alive."
Geolocated footage has been cited as evidence that Russian forces never established lasting control over the claimed position.
The contradiction becomes even more striking when compared with Russia's own battlefield assessments.
While Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov claimed Russian forces had captured 1,800 square kilometres, frontline mapping accounts recorded a daily net territorial change of precisely zero.
No gains. No withdrawals. Nothing.
And the problems extend far beyond military reporting.
Russia is struggling to find sufficient personnel for territorial defence and drone interception. Accounts claim approximately 80% of reservists have avoided mobilisation, while authorities in Sevastopol are recruiting men as old as 52 and officials in Tambov are accepting inexperienced 18-year-olds.
Their assignment? Help defend Russian territory against drones, sometimes using little more than rifles.
Meanwhile, Russian aviation personnel have reportedly resorted to improvising ground equipment, including attaching wheels to a pipe after factories refused to supply proper aircraft towing machinery.
The contrast with allegations of corruption is remarkable. One Russian official was reportedly found possessing approximately $11 million in cash, 114 buildings and a private estate complete with a helipad and church.
Another extraordinary controversy involves a bankrupt television shopping businessman holding three passports, allegedly recorded over a lobster dinner in an American restaurant threatening arms industry executives with Putin's wrath if they continued stealing.
Russia's civilian administration is hardly presenting a more reassuring picture.
In Sevastopol, official announcements reportedly celebrated stabilised fuel supplies while simultaneously acknowledging a collapse in municipal waste management.
Russia's education authorities have also attracted ridicule over a new eighth-grade safety textbook, edited by former Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu's daughter, advising children who fall in a crowd to grab passing people.
Even the country's wildlife has become part of the absurdity. Finnish police have reportedly received more than 400 calls concerning brown bears crossing into Finland. As one Russian zoologist observed, bears do not understand international borders.
But the economic damage attributed to Ukraine's long-range strike campaign is far more serious.
Attacks against fuel facilities around Rostov are said to have contributed to a 65% monthly collapse in port cargo volumes, disrupting Russian wheat exports. The precise extent to which Ukrainian strikes caused that reduction remains unverified.
And while Russian commanders face accusations of exaggerating territorial gains, Ukraine's 159th Brigade has reportedly raised its flag in Karaichne, a village Moscow claimed to have captured back in May.
These accounts include significant claims about territorial control, Russian personnel shortages and economic losses that still require independent confirmation.
Nevertheless, the recurring dispute is unmistakable: Russian military commentators themselves are questioning whether official declarations of victory correspond to actual battlefield control.
Ich will keine Pariser Verhältnisse in Berlin.
Ukraine’s strikes are bleeding russia’s oil industry dry.
According to Bloomberg, Rosneft’s net profit plunged nearly 20%.
And here comes Trump, trying to stop the strikes on oil refineries.
He’s not trying to stop putin’s war machine. He’s trying to save it.
