One year ago today, our house burned down in Los Angeles.

A few things I learned over the past 12 months:

- I had a home to lose -- that fact alone is a gift

- Everything we touch is temporarily on loan, never truly ours. Shifting from "I lost this" to "there it goes" is a subtle but meaningful reframing

- Humor, for me, was the best medicine

- I didn't need 95% of what I owned and never repurchased it

- Family heirlooms and gifts from my kids went from being "things in a drawer" to the deepest losses. Take photos of it all, and while you have them, put those things out - proudly and visibly

- If a friend experiences a loss, send something. A card, a gift, anything, the physical object in the mail is very powerful

So many to thank:
@sacca/@crystale, @tonyconrad, @tferriss, @joshcook and many others sent things I could have bought myself but didn’t have the emotional bandwidth to even think about. I’m forever grateful. And to @sara, thank you for the incredible generosity with furniture and clothes when we moved into an apartment, you have such a wonderful heart. Also, @m_franceschetti and @eightsleep for the bed (a staple in our home) and offering a discount code for fire survivors.

@trueventures, their first call was "what can we do" and "take as much time as you need", such the true way, what a fantastic firm.

Lastly, to @summertomato - such a pillar of strength and wrangler of the chaos. The kids walked away wiser and with deeper emotional intelligence by your handling this with grace.

I'm know I'm missing so many...thank you 🙏
