The Federal Government of Nigeria through the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development (@fmhud_ng ) is proposing major sweeping reforms in the sector to bridge the housing gap in the country, protect homebuyers, tenants and landlords alike, restore investor confidence and promote a more transparent and accountable real estate market.

Some of these reforms include
1.National Housing and Built Environment Regulation Policy — A new overarching regulatory framework designed to protect homebuyers and restore investor confidence in Nigeria’s real estate market.

2.Developer Licensing — Developers will be required to obtain a formal licence before they can sell housing units, curbing unlicensed and dubious operators.

3.Escrow Protection for Buyers’ Funds — Off-plan sales will require buyers’ payments to be held in regulated escrow accounts rather than paid directly to developers.
