Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has given the green signal for land acquisition to facilitate the launch of civilian flight operations from Hasimara Airport. The demand for civilian flight services from Hasimara has existed for years. The proposal aims to use the runway of the Hasimara Air Force Station on the lines of Bagdogra Airport in Siliguri, along with the construction of a separate passenger terminal on adjoining land.

Strategically located in the heart of the Dooars, Hasimara lies within nearly 40 kilometres of both Alipurduar Town and the Bhutan border. The region is also surrounded by nearly 200 tea gardens, making it commercially significant. Many residents believe civilian flight services from Hasimara would greatly improve connectivity, tourism and trade in the region.
