This week at Summer Learning Camp our theme is Think Like an Engineer. Listen to these 1st graders use their critical thinking skills!!!! Their challenge was to create a marble track using the available materials.
I had the privilege of attending the VEX Robotics Championship & Educators Conference 2026 in St. Louis this week. With 52 nations represented, it was an incredible opportunity to engage with global perspectives in STEM education. A truly valuable, professional experience.
Students had to design and build a working model elevator using simple materials. Students created a hydraulic system that allows them to raise and lower an elevator platform through applied pressure. This is phase I, next up testing the system’s ability to lift an object!
Fourth grade has been learning about natural disasters in Science. Students were tasked with programming Sphero Bolt to deliver supplies to different places on the map. The real challenge was avoiding debris and flooded area.@Sphero
As a culminating project on electrical energy, third graders made game controllers using everyday materials and MakeyMakey. They tested their controllers by playing PACMAN in Scratch. @makeymakey@scratch
Sometimes we step out of the STEAM Lab and head to the Science Lab. Fourth graders explored WED- weathering, erosion, and deposition. We’re meeting standards through technology and hands-on activities.

Yesterday, we celebrated our Kindness in Motion Cereal Domino Challenge!! Rivercrest Elementary was able to donate boxes of cereal to several food pantries: Oak Elementary, Bartlett United Methodist Church, Journey Church of Millington and the University of Memphis!

Today was the final St. Jude STEMM Club for our students. Students had the opportunity to demonstrate their prosthetic hands and share what they’ve learned about cancer. I’m so grateful for this partnership.
