The Riverhead High School Chamber Choir recently had the opportunity to work with the Grammy award-winning men’s choir, Chanticleer.

During the one-hour, virtual meeting, students sang repertoire from their chamber concert to members of the group and received feedback.

Students in Mrs. DeMarzo's class at Riverhead Middle School prepared the song, "Graduation" by Vitamin C using Boomwhackers. Boomwhackers are instruments that are noted and color-coded and each one makes a different sound.

Students at Pulaski Street School came together to honor Juneteenth during an essay contest celebration. Community activists and the East End Voters Coalition held the contest, which is in its 15th year, to recognize and celebrate Juneteenth.

At the June 14 Board of Education meeting, the Riverhead Central School District recognized the April and May recipients of the Blue Waves Recognition and Appreciation Program. Congratulations!

The Class of 2022 at Riverhead High School returned to their roots ahead of graduation. On June 13, seniors visited their elementary schools – Aquebogue, Phillips Avenue, Riley Avenue and Roanoke Avenue.

Congratulations to Ava Lily Sumwalt for being awarded the prestigious Butch Dellecave Award for her outstanding performance in athletics, the classroom and community.

Students paraded outside of Pulaski Street School on June 10 for the 35th annual Say No to Drugs March, sponsored by CAP. Students dressed in shirts that read “Drug Free Body” & held signs that promoted healthy decision making as they marched down the streets of Riverhead.

On June 1, the Riverhead High School chamber ensembles performed in Howard Hovey Hall at Pulaski Street School. This was a very special night as one of our teachers, Mrs. Lisa Talmage, conducted her last formal performance before retiring at the end of the school year.🎼🎶

On June 6, the ACE History of Long Island classes took a field trip to Elizabeth A. Morton’s National Wildlife Refuge in Sag Harbor, followed by a trip to the Montauk Lighthouse and Museum.

This May, students returned to a traditional concert setting. Each concert brought its own significance. For some, this marked the 1st time they were able to have an in-person concert in front of an audience. It also was the final concert for our seniors. Bravo!🎶

We celebrated our annual Art in Action exhibition on May 20 at RHS. Artwork was featured from K-12 students. Digital Filmmaking ran a 40-minute presentation of student films. Additionally, there were live demonstrations of ceramics.

The RHS Band joined the NJROTC & Kickline to march in the annual Memorial Day Parade. Students played familiar songs dedicated to our veterans as community members lined the streets cheering them on. At each memorial along the parade route, student trumpet players performed Taps.

The Night of Strings took place on June 7 at RHS.The concert featured orchestras in grades 5-12.  Each group performed a piece on stage and by the end of the night, all string students came together to perform "Blinding Lights" by The Weekend.

Students from Debbie Cantalupo and Selena Pagliarulo’s art classes at Riverhead High School made hundreds of ceramic poppies, which have become part of an annual installation at the World War I monument. More than 400 poppies created by students were planted around the memorial.

Students taking Advanced Spanish at the HS recently visited Phillips Ave to connect with younger students. The high schoolers wrote & illustrated fables as part of their final class project. They visited Phillips Ave to share their stories with students in bilingual & ENL classes

Riverhead HS has achieved the NYSPHSAA School of Excellence Award for the 2021-22 school year. To receive this recognition, 75% of the High School’s varsity programs had to have a GPA of 90 or above for 75% of the team.

At Riverhead, 92% of the varsity teams have over a 90 GPA.

The 35th annual “Say No to Drugs March,” sponsored by the Riverhead Community Awareness Program Inc. will take place at Pulaski Street Elementary School on June 10. The march will kick off at 9:30 a.m. in front of the school.
