A thought on Eid Milad-un-Nabi

I know this is a subject many Muslims feel strongly about, and I know some may disagree with me. But this is something I have always wondered about.

As I understand Islam, there are two Eids…
Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha.

We are taught to love our Prophet ﷺ, send salawat upon him….read about his life….follow his Sunnah and live by the values he taught us.That to me should be part of our lives every day.

But I have never found a teaching from the Prophet ﷺ asking us to celebrate his birthday as Eid.When he spoke about the day he was born, he spoke about fasting on Mondays.

So for me, the Prophet ﷺ does not need a third Eid for us to show our love for him.

Send salawat….Read his seerah…Follow his Sunnah….Live by his teachings.

That to me, is the most meaningful way of honouring him.

This is simply my understanding of Islam. I respect that other Muslims may understand this differently.
