When a copy of the Budget was placed before Lord Venkateswara at the Tirupati Temple, Madurai @SuVe4Madurai MP Su. Venkatesan strongly objected, saying that India is a secular country and questioned how the Budget could be placed at the feet of Lord Venkateswara.

Yet, in the same secular country, when a rosary and a statue of Jesus were brought into the Legislative Assembly, he did not raise any objection.

Similarly, @thirumaofficial who often describes any expression connected with Hindu traditions as being against secularism, defended the bringing of the rosary into the Assembly by saying that everyone has the right to practise and express their own faith.

Mr. K. Veeramani has, in the past, criticised the celebration of Ayudha Pooja and Saraswati Pooja in government institutions as being against secular principles. But today, there has been complete silence.

There was a time when even wearing a sacred thread on the wrist, applying vibhuti or kumkum on the forehead according to one's faith, or displaying Hindu religious symbols was portrayed as communal by @arivalayam . It was even argued that students should not come to schools wearing such religious symbols. Yet, no one questioned the display of another religious symbol inside the Legislative Assembly.

Let me be clear: I am not criticising the Finance Minister for carrying a rosary or making the sign of the Cross according to her faith. Every individual has the constitutional right to practise and express their religion.

My question is this: Why is every expression of Hindu faith consistently portrayed as communal or against secularism, while similar expressions of other religions are defended as matters of religious freedom?

I say this only to highlight the double standards and unequal treatment that many Hindus feel they are subjected to. The people of Tamil Nadu must reflect on whether the beliefs, traditions, and sentiments of the Hindu majority are being treated fairly.

When Hindus express their faith, they are often branded as communal or divisive. But when members of other faiths do the same, it is readily accepted as an exercise of religious freedom.

How can such unequal standards be justified?

Six pastors and an accomplice have been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment for forcing Hindus to convert Hindus to Christianity by disparaging Hindu deities, promoting hatred towards Hindu beliefs and portraying Christianity as superior

As per a key prosecution witness, his cousin had urinated in the family's ancestral place of worship after coming under influence of these pastors

Case from Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh

Six men from Diwari village, working as pastors, managed to convert one Jeet Singh of Pipariya village

After gaining a foothold, they began holding gatherings at his house to attract more converts through familiar tactics, including:

- Telling villagers that Hindu gods were of no use
- Saying Hindu beliefs were false
- Claiming Christianity was superior
- Promising money, relief from poverty, miraculous healing after conversion

The villagers of Pipariya were already upset by these activities

On 27 April 2024, the six pastors again visited the village, this time gathering at the house of Suday Maravi

Birthday decorations had been put up in the room to give the impression that the gathering was for birthday celebration of Suday's daughter

Suday's neighbour and cousin, Angad Maravi, gathered other villagers to protest the conversion activity

Angad later testified in court that his uncle (Suday's father) had told him that Suday had urinated in the family's ancestral place of worship after coming under the influence of the accused

When villagers confronted the gathering, the pastors began insulting Hindu deities and urging everyone present to convert as well

An FIR (No. 210/2024) was filed at Samanapur Police Station against Santosh Paraste, Sanjay Markam, Amit Kumar, Pramod, Karan Singh Maravi, Chhot Singh Dhurve and Jeet Singh under IPC Sections 153A (promoting enmity), 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings), and Sections 3 and 5 of the Madhya Pradesh Freedom of Religion Act, 2021 (unlawful religious conversion by prohibited means)

Relying on Christian conversion literature seized by the police from the spot, along with testimony of multiple villagers, Dindori Sessions Court convicted all seven accused on 12 June 2026

Each has been sentenced to five years' rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh each.

In December 2025, the Allahabad High Court passed a very important order

While hearing a case in which a man had been chargesheeted for disparaging Hinduism while luring people into Christianity, the court observed that the accused, Jitendra Sahani, had described his religion as "Hindu" in the court affidavit

The chargesheet however stated that Jitendra had been baptised, was a practising Christian and was even working as a pastor

The court questioned how a baptised pastor could claim to be Hindu

It then issued the following directions:

- Inquiry against Jitendra Sahani for forgery and appropriate legal action

- Various government authorities - including the Cabinet Secretary, Govt of India; Chief Secretary, Govt of Uttar Pradesh; Principal Secretary, Minority Welfare Department, UP; Additional Chief Secretary, Social Welfare Department, UP; and all District Magistrates in UP - to act within four months to cancel Scheduled Caste certificates held by every person who had converted

That four-month deadline expired in April 2026

The students protesting in Jharkhand's Ranchi against irregularities in the JPSC and JSSC recruitment examinations are sitting out in the rain with nothing more than four umbrellas for shelter.

There is no stage, no waterproof setup, and no medical team checking on their health every hour. It's not as if they protest during the day and then return to a hotel at night to rest comfortably. They have been staying at the protest site itself with almost no facilities.

There is no PR machinery behind them, no well-funded campaign to emotionally manipulate people or shape the public narrative. Perhaps this is also why they are receiving so little media coverage, why their voices are going unheard, and why no one from Jharkhand Govt seems willing to come forward and engage with them.

Shivcharan Gupta, 74, a cloth merchant living in an old age home in Sonipat, died yesterday. He had three daughters; sadly and surprisingly, not one of them turned up for his funeral.

He and his late wife had raised and educated their three daughters, ensuring they were all self-reliant and well-settled, two as schoolteachers, residing across Nepal, UP, and Mumbai. After his wife passed away, Shivcharan lived alone at the old age home, keeping a mobile phone solely to stay in touch with his children.

The manager of the old age home told the media that they had informed his three daughters 20 days ago about his deteriorating health, yet none made the trip to visit him. As his illness worsened, the daughters stopped taking his calls altogether. When Shivcharan finally died, the management immediately contacted them again and offered to hold off on the final rites until they could arrive, but none of the sisters agreed to travel.

Instead of showing up to bid their father farewell, the eldest daughter transferred ₹5,100 online to cover the ritual expenses and requested that the funeral be streamed over a video call. Though they initially asked the staff to preserve his ashes, they quickly backtracked, stating they "did not have time" to pick them up and requested that the old age home handle the immersion in the Ganges as well.

This is so tragic. If a life spent raising children ends in total solitude, one cannot help but ask what the long journey was truly for.

All of you must have heard about the Kejriwal transforming govt schools in Delhi, even if he actually didn't. That's how marketing works, make enough noise, even if you don't do the work, and people will believe that you did.

Madhya Pradesh is the exact opposite of that. Good things are happening here, but because the state doesn't project or advertise them loudly, only the negative news gets out, creating an impression that everything happening in the state is bad.

For example, check out the Sandipani Vidyalaya initiative aimed at overhauling govt schools. Instead of simply throwing funds at infrastructure, the overhaul focuses on building high-tech digital classrooms, providing free bus transportation for kids from remote villages, and deeply investing in academic leadership. They have equipped school principals with structured operational handbooks, trained thousands of teachers with modern pedagogical tools, and set up 368 schools that currently serve over 4.4 lakh students.

The results from these efforts are impressive. Over the last four years, Class 10 board pass rates at Sandipani Vidyalayas jumped from 68.2% in 2022–23 all the way up to 88% in 2025–26, alongside a more than 28% increase in students graduating with first-division honors. Similarly, Class 12 pass rates shot up from 59% to 87% over the same period. In 2026 alone, 41 Class 10 students and 17 Class 12 students across all streams secured positions on the State Merit List. Even in the Tribal Affairs Dept's Sandipani schools, Class 10 and 12 pass rates hit an impressive 89.54% and 85.72%, respectively. And best part, zero drop rate.

Building on this success, they are now planning to open another 405 schools in Phase 2. Seeing govt schools deliver such measurable academic growth without all the usual political noise is great. Hope this momentum keeps going!
