@ARKNDJL Mets had 3 hours to dangle the best back arm on the market and they sold early and ate money while saying we’re going to be competitive next year. Thats something that needs to be addressed by Stearns.
In Mets-Pirates deal, New York is covering $2 million of Luke Weaver's contract this year and $6 million of it next year, league sources confirmed (@Joelsherman1 1st on numbers).
That is $8 million of the $13.4 million Weaver was owed.
If you say you’re going to compete in 2027…this is not the way to do it. Pretty obvious Cohen is trying to get his salary down. Stearns has had a very bad deadline.
I like Stafura fwiw
Source confirms that Luke Weaver is going to the Pirates for Sammy Stafura. Stafura, a shortstop in High-A, is a Hudson Valley native with a high upside. He was the Pirates No. 14 prospect.
Mets needed a Right handed hitting OF and should’ve went to Ramon instead of Cedric. Cedric was a panic buy and besides never being a fit he actively cost the Mets baseball games. Problem was the Padres were such deep buyers at the deadline that they were able to put an unbeatable package for Ramon and Ryan O’Hearn together. Agree with the other trades, good process and poor results. Hindsight 50/50 maybe you send Tong etc. to Minnesota for Byron Buxton
@ernestdove The Mets once drafted a kid with very little RHP experience in the 7th round out of Stetson. He’ll be a hall of famer in about a decade. Baseball isn’t an exact science.
