If school staff or students get strep at school, they can easily go to the doctor, get tested, and get antibiotics and quickly defeat the infection. Not the case for #COVID19 where no proven cure exists and hospitalization is expensive. #OnlyWhenItsSafe
@GovMurphy, many of my students say they feel so safe and loved in my classroom. If I die, I will traumatize my 60 students. If I live, I get to make 1,800 of my kids feel loved, supported, and heard over the next 30 years. #OnlyWhenItsSafe
Teachers can't be expected to DIY their way out of a global pandemic. The problem is too big for even their incredible ingenuity. More here:

Younger kids won’t bc they don’t understand. Older kids won’t bc they don’t want to (and don’t fully understand). No hate. They’re KIDS. Keeping them safe is OUR JOB, not their own. #onlywhenitssafe@GovMurphy
Do I miss my students? OF COURSE! But I would rather see them now through a screen and hug them later, than attend their or a loved one’s funeral later. #OnlyWhenItsSafe
Has it been considered that the reason infection rates were so low in children is because we made the right call early to close schools? Opening schools will increase infection rates and how many teachers and students die in the process? #onlywhenitssafe
While not opening schools will cause many problems, such problems are far more easily addressed than those that will undoubtedly result from sending kids, teachers, & staff into a dangerous, terrifying daily reality that utterly fails to show respect for their lives and work. 3/3
There will be very little productive instruction occurring in schools. Every day, every lesson — every SECOND — will be clouded by anxiety, confusion, and fear. The trauma caused by forcing kids, teachers, and staff into such a situation is going to outlast this pandemic. 2/3
As a creator of content for kids, I believe it is also my duty to act as an ally of and advocate for kids — whether it comes to their reading lives, their creative lives, or their LIVES. Kids and their teachers should be sent back to school #OnlyWhenItsSafe. 1/3
@g_estrada32@NJDCA@NJDCF@FirstLadyNJ The children who they want back in schools because they are at-risk educationally are also likely in the at-risk groups for bad COVID outcomes due to asthma, diabetes, lack of healthcare. We need to protect our most vulnerable! #OnlyWhenItsSafe#DemandSafeSchools
