@geoffkeighley@LocalThunk@BalatroGame Great reason for you to give DLC/ expansion context its own category…. We can have more games like this on the GOTY list
@PaulTassi I mean it’s an IP made for kids (which does not mean it can’t be enjoyed by adults just that they are not the target audience) and kids are going to love it….. am I missing something?
@GameOverGreggy It should have its own category. It’s something different than a base game inherently by definition. This would’ve allowed for a better conversation around the difference between extended content, like God of war, Valhalla and redemption DLC like phantom liberty.
@PaulTassi Agreed, it expands the conversation and the industry. It’s not about diminishing DLC/expanded content. It’s about having a separate space which allows which allows that type of content to dominate the conversation when it deserves to.
Yeah, I’m sorry that’s crazy. I personally would’ve put it in the game of the year nominations but outside of that there is at least a couple more categories It deserves the nod in …. Yeah I’m looking at you best RPG and best action adventure. One nomination is CRAZY!
Dragon Age: The Veilguard was only nominated in one category, accessibility. Had to double-check to see if it even made the time cut-off. Not great for a BioWare trying to push for a big comeback
@geoffkeighley Create a DLC/extended content award. Every year there’s plenty of things that can fall in this category having a separate award allows us to have a separate conversation with separate criteria. It’s also a part of the history of video games that deserves a separate nod.
@jerkachu I think DLC and extended content should have its own award. It allows us to have a different conversation and set different criteria for example how much did it improve the original product. Generally speaking, the wider the field, the harder it is to get into the details.
Preach! No one‘s trying to diminish DLC It just deserves its own category building on something that already exist and extending an experience is in itself an achievement that deserves to be recognized separately.
Good lord this is the worst list of GOTY nominees ever.
This isn't The Game Awards' fault (which IGN, among others, nominates), but just how 2024 shook out.
(P.S. I'm in the "expansion packs shouldn't be nominated for GOTY" camp) https://t.co/ehYwuV6BTY
@vicious696 Paris, you’re the man huge fan. Your point here is valid and maybe it has to be stated.
Would love to get you more spicy takes on nominations though…did I miss that tweet?
@snowbikemike Strong list all these games deserve recognition. I do think it’s a tragedy that #DragonAgeTheVeilguard is not on here. I also do think that we should not have DLC‘s on this list, those should have their own category that celebrates extending the content of a game.
