We are excited to share that Seattle Children’s is now enrolling for the first chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell clinical trial in the U.S. for children with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE). The clinical trial, known as REACT-01 is led by @SCTherapeutics, a novel nonprofit therapeutics development enterprise devoted to envisioning and testing next-generation cell and gene therapies for pediatric diseases. It typically affects children > 12 mo old

There are many types of C. botulinum: subtypes A and B cause IB.

IB is a gram + bacillus that produces spores and is found in the environment like in soil and aquatic sediment

IB can also be caused by contaminated honey!

Did you know that there isn't a gold standard to test for DIC in pediatric patients?

I learned that there is a gold standard in adult patients, but more research is still needed in pediatrics to best determine DIC.

Don't fear! It can be treated with intravenous botulism immunoglobulin aka BIG-IV or BabyBIG!

It is currently recommended that if IB is suspected, don't wait for fecal samples or for diagnosis to be confirmed! This is to reduce morbidity and mortality!
