1st time in my 23 years in Roanoke Valley to see NWS forecast entirely 60-100% chance of rain across 5-day period -- and really it goes out to next Monday in forecast text. Flash flood warning for AM training rain band but heaviest rain/highest % in forecast isn't till Wed-Thurs.
Very cool speed index out today from @StreetLightData
There are huge differences in how often people drive at #SaferSpeeds by city
Any #VisionZero effort that doesn't prioritize #SafetyOverSpeed misses one of the most important reasons that people die on US roads
Showers and scattered storms today may bring heavier downpours which could lead to localized flooding. Another system may bring strong to severe storms Monday, especially east of the Blue Ridge.

Looking forward to future winters the odds are very unlikely that we would see another winter with this low or an even lower amount of snow. But, you never know!
Early May brought some very unusual snow, but I think we can safely declare the 22-23 snow season is over? The 2022-2023 winter was one of the least snowiest winters in history across the board! Not even one official climate stations in out area recorded 10 inches of snow.
Spring has sprung, and so have warmer temps! ☀️🌡️

Sun breaking through on this Saturday AM. A rare Saturday for 2023 in SW/S’side Va that will be both warm (70s-near 80) and (mostly) dry … AM showers north of Roanoke, slight chance in afternoon. Sunday PM will bring showers/t-storms ahead of cold front.
This stat is also helped greatly by Roanoke sticking at 33 on May 10, 2020, when many locations around the state in all directions went to freezing or below. Long-term, large-scale averages are more important in many ways, but I'm always fascinated by the quirky local nuances.
Roanoke low of 31 with the Easter sunrise is the latest freeze date (April 9) in the Star City since a day later 7 years ago. Sort of an ironic statistic considering it's also the warmest year to date on record going back to 1912 (49.2 avg through 4/8, compared to 48.7 in 2012)
