It was about 17 years ago that I first started to feel that something big was going to happen soon. But I was feeling, not thinking. Once I really started thinking about the state of things I realized that nothing ever happens. And even when the government's bullshit COVID lock-downs happened I still had to go work my stupid job and I didn't even have to get the clot-shot. If anyone would have done anything that matters, they had the perfect time and opportunity to do it, but didn't. That drove me to hate the "Why isn't anyone doing anything?" crowd more than anything. Nobody wants to be the first to do anything, they want to join an existing mob where they'd feel safest to vent their impotent rage, even if it ultimately accomplishes nothing. Nothing will get done because anything that can result in meaningful change has a guaranteed threat to one's own comfort and safety, with no chance of visceral gratification. You'd be better-off trying to herd cats.
I could keep monitoring the situation. I could keep following the news and the endless stories about how another feral brown killed an innocent person, but it doesn't even evoke an emotion anymore, like a unfunny joke you've heard so many times that it stopped even registering to you as a joke. Unless something directly effects me personally, or elicits happiness in me in some way, then it just doesn't matter anymore. It could be anything from some new woke slop entertainment coming out to a major US city getting completely wiped off the map by a Tsar Bomba-sized bomb, and if I still have to go to work tomorrow, then I refuse to hear anything about it, because it's simply not my problem.
And if anyone tries to stop you from doing the same, at best they want to weaponize you to fight for them, because they know they can't do anything themselves, and at worse they just want your attention for ad revenue.
So I've started un-following anyone that just states the obvious without at least speculating on what people can do to improve things. And that doesn't include slacktivism nor vague notions of violence. We've reached a point where noticing is allowed because there's too much to stop it, now all that's really being censored is actually offline involvement in politics.
@countHoshioni@KennyLauderdal3 As a kid my interest in Digimon declined significantly late into in season 2 & I dropped it entirely with Tamers.
I rewatched it once for nostalgia's sake & it gets less interesting once Ken turns good. And even more than season 1 it seems like some things just happen at random.
