Nick Castellanos has been designated for assignment.
The Padres have recalled OF Samad Taylor from Triple-A.
While Taylor has played 2B, the Padres seem a bit heavy on outfielders now.
Gavin Sheets of the @Padres is the first player in MLB history to hit a go-ahead 3+ run HR in the 9th inning 3 times in the same season (April 10, April 23 & tonight).
Alfredo Harp Helú, whose Mexico City ballpark will host the Padres and the Diamondbacks this weekend, will continue as a Padres minority owner when José E. Feliciano and Kwanza Jones complete their purchase of the franchise, sources tell @MikeVorkunov and me.
Drew Brees and Vuori investor Michael Persall, a USD alum, are among the Padres' potential minority investors. (Feliciano and Jones are still in the early stages of assembling an ownership group.) Vuori founder Joe Kudla is no longer involved: https://t.co/WwGMkt5f2N

Per the story, Profar “will forfeit the entirety of his $15 million salary and will be ineligible for the postseason and the World Baseball Classic.” Tough to see for a San Diego favorite.
Walker Buehler on signing with the San Diego Padres:
“It’s nice to finally be on a team that tries to win by playing hard / working together. Not just overpaying everyone because our ownership group is an Investment firm managing $350 Billion in assets”
Castellanos said he talked to "a few" other teams before joining the #Padres. On San Diego: "It's a veteran baseball team. They don't cut corners as far as what they do to prepare and win. And also, too, is the reputation they have on how they treat their players and how they have their backs. Even if something goes a little bit awry, they still stand with them, and they don't deviate, I guess, from their commitment to them as a person."
Source confirms: Free-agent LHP Germán Márquez in agreement on one-year deal with Padres. Third addition by SD in last 24 hours, joining Nick Castellanos and Griffin Canning. Deal includes mutual option to push some of guarantee into a buyout. First: @Alden_Gonzalez.
