The arrival has begun! Quite a few areas have reported between 1 and 15 birds. They are: Shetland, Fife, Borders, Kings Lynn, Bridlington, Holme Dunes, Bedale, Balnakeil, Orkney, Spurn and Fair Isle. Detailed reports will start from tomorrow.
After a really rotten week, finding a hedgehog nest complete with sleepy hedgehog at the bottom of our garden has cheered me up no end. What’s the best way of submitting this record @WiltsMammalGp?
@philespin@robblacker@Lincsbirding@rspb Fantastic to chat to you all. Really enjoyed the talk and will thoroughly enjoy my new copy of Birds of Lincolnshire.
In 2008 @Lincsbirding helped fund my volunteering with @BirdlifeOz at Gluepot Reserve in South Australia. Today, I absolutely credit this fantastic opportunity as having helped kickstart my career in conservation.
If there is any young person from Lincs under 25 who’d like cash support for any bird related research, conservation project or overseas trip please contact @philespin with a proposal and he will put it in front of the LBC committee for consideration.
BREAKING: Bee-eaters are breeding in Norfolk quarry
And even better @RSPBbirders and @NENBC_Info have set up a viewpoint so everyone can enjoy these wonderful birds.

Lapwings, skylarks and yellowhammers are just some of England's bird species that next on the ground. Sadly, these nests are at risk of being trampled on.
You can help by sticking to paths and keeping your dog on a lead when out in the countryside. #RespectProtectEnjoy
I’ve gone looking specifically for purple emperors half a dozen times in Wiltshire and always managed to miss them - so I was super excited (and reasonably surprised) when this one turned up in a lay-by in the Cotswolds the other weekend!
In Wiltshire we are lucky to still have good populations of farmland birds that have declined nationally. This incudes Tree Sparrow, Corn Bunting and the fabulous Yellowhammer (pictured). This is only possible due to the hard work of farmers, land managers & conservationists.
One of the fondest memories of my PhD was opportunity to track Stone-curlew, learn about their inconspicuous behaviors, and identify opportunities for their #conservation. Today, the results of this study were published

We are sad to report that livestock on our nature reserves are being disturbed by dogs on a daily basis.
Recently, seven dogs were running amongst our pregnant ewes at Coombe Bissett. At Devenish, the sheep are regularly spooked and distressed.
Please keep your dog on the lead!
Here's the last, leafed branch of the Cubbington Pear being cut down a few minutes ago. One of England's largest wild pears and the country's tree of the year in 2015, its 250 years of living history, ecologies and attachments disgracefully destroyed in no time at all for #HS2
The PM in his "build, build, build" speech has just said “The newt counting delays in our system are a massive drag on the productivity and the prosperity of this country”
It is a fundamental mistake to view species and environmental protections as a drag on our economy.
