@magpies_history@Official_NCFC Hope they do - there’s an argument some of them should’ve got a chance (ie an appearance in a matchday squad) well before now. ‘Injuries’ cleared up just as the window’s closed.
@colin_sisson Thought he was deflecting blame (again). He’s spent weeks publicly implying Dennis isn’t up to it, now he’s the top scorer in L2 it’s someone to play _with_ him, which long term can be Jatta anyway.
Spiting himself by ostracising Traore / Jarvis and not using as bench options.
@NottsCountyPoll It explains why the appointment took longer because very few if any credible head coaches would sign up to it!
Having to justify your team selections every week to a committee which includes your handpicked assistants and manager(s), who all also get their input. 😬
@Bennyg4 I believe so - not sure what changed his mind (ie if it was related to all of The Technical Board stuff or his own personal reasons).
He’d have arguably been equally as underwhelming, those with even semi-appealing CVs just wouldn’t have signed up to this.
Hugely underwhelming appointment on the face of it. But hard to imagine there was a long queue of recognised managers willing to come in & work with two club-appointed assistants & have to justify his team selections before and after games to a committee every week.
Tough gig.
@Bennyg4 Yep - it’s no wonder that we ended up with candidates like him/Donati (who himself had a change of heart).
They clearly believe in it but that set-up is a really tough sell for any head coach.
@StickyPalms Yeah, I think there’s a happy medium. Bringing in 1-2 of his own coaches would’ve been sensible.
Appointing both his assistants (who he doesn’t know) & having him justify/argue about his selections to this ‘Board’ does feel like he’s going to be very isolated from the outset.
Without any doubt the correct call.
Nice guy so wouldn’t have been good to see Meadow Lane turn to Fullarton-type levels of anger (or us waste another season) before a decision was made.
The last paragraph of the statement is the most important. Onto the next 🙌
@willbobs46 But when he has played he’s pretty much exclusively been RWB. Today when absences meant he was v important he’s repeatedly picking the ball up midway in our half. Even the commentators said we should move him nearer to goal.
Just an eg of a bizarre, unnecessary thing to change.
Anyone blaming the recruitment here - SM’s taken the L2 Player of the Season, who had made a record 24 assists from LW & turned him into an auxiliary right back.
I’d wager a competent manager would get a lot more from the likes of Whitaker, Grant, Gordon, Traore, Jarvis etc.
@Robertnotts Coaches - don’t know who’s at fault etc but there was a fallout (as there was with SM & the now Barnet manager at Wealdstone).
If he’s completely blameless it’s harsh, but I can understand the club not jumping in & letting him pick someone else mid-season given those 2 instances
@Robertnotts Agree, ideally we’d have had a readymade Crowley replacement, but a big ask. Suspect Jarvis was supposed to be the guy but he’s been exclusively used at LWB.
Feel like under Maynard, Langstaff would’ve been used there and labelled a bad signing too.
