@WallStreetApes It's inflation killing them. They're on a fixed income when they retire but inflation will keep eating away at their buying power until their fixed income can no longer cover the necessities & they're left with no choice. You can thank our fiat currency & money printing for that.
@texasrunnerDFW It doesn't help when your property taxes grow faster than your income. When you start out at 10k per yr in property taxes but now have to come up with an extra 5k every year just because your house is worth more on paper is really stressful.

Umberto Eco, who owned 50,000 books, had this to say about home libraries:
“It is foolish to think that you have to read all the books you buy, as it is foolish to criticize those who buy more books than they will ever be able to read. It would be like saying that you should use all the cutlery or glasses or screwdrivers or drill bits you bought before buying new ones.
“There are things in life that we need to always have plenty of supplies, even if we will only use a small portion.
“If, for example, we consider books as medicine, we understand that it is good to have many at home rather than a few: when you want to feel better, then you go to the ‘medicine closet’ and choose a book. Not a random one, but the right book for that moment. That’s why you should always have a nutrition choice!
“Those who buy only one book, read only that one and then get rid of it. They simply apply the consumer mentality to books, that is, they consider them a consumer product, a good. Those who love books know that a book is anything but a commodity.”
@WallStreetApes Cancel your streaming subscriptions and use the money to buy the movies and TV shows you want to watch instead. You will save a lot of money in the long run. You just have to be a little patient and not constantly chase after instant gratification.
@texasrunnerDFW Of the 9 states with no income taxes, Texas has the HIGHEST property tax and the 4th highest sales tax. So 5 of the 9 states with no income tax are able to figure out how to balance thier budgets with both lower property and sales tax burdens to thier citizens, why can't Texas?
We didn’t “lose” physical media.
We walked away from it.
The shops still exist. The discs, the vinyl, the collections, all still there waiting.
Streaming is easy.
Owning something is meaningful.
If you miss it… support it.

@WallStreetApes Easy fix. Download everything you bought to your kindle. Use something like epubor to transfer them to your Kobo. Delete your Amazon account. Walmart plus is cheaper and faster (a lot of times when I order something and have it shipped it will get here the next day for free).
