Encouraging pastors to be intentional about identifying leaders in their churches providing tools to mentor men aspiring to be involved in ministry leadership.
Here's the scoop...
Only 1 in 7 protestant pastors are under the age of 40, that is 15% of all pastors. Why... only 1 in 6 pastors are mentoring younger people for ministry leadership. In a survey conducted by Follow the Call, the respondents (pastors) indicated 62.5% indicated they do not have a formalized method to mentor men for ministry. The good news is 90.2% of pastors are willing to work with other pastors in their geographic area to mentor men.
This is one of reasons our focus is to work with church association leaders to encourage them to assist pastors Their reach is all the pastors in the geographic region. They can ask pastors to be intentional to identify men who God may be dealing with, have an "I see in you" conversations asking these men to pray for how the Lord may be directing them. Then ask these men to meet with others who are all wrestling with the call for 10-12 weeks as a means to discern their calling. Some may realize they are not called to be a pastor, others may discover through prayer, meeting one-on-one with their pastor and others and through this process and affirmation learn God is calling them.
They read a book on the call to ministry or ministry leadership, they share and pray for one another and develop messages to present to this closed group. A different pastor in the association is invited each week to share their call to ministry testimony and it also provides a conviction for him to identify and raise up ministry leaders.
This is a great plan to cohesively strengthen the church in a geographic area and raise up more ministry leaders to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Today, I invested time at the Indiana Baptist Annual Summit at Harvest Church in Carmel, Indiana. The opening speaker this morning was Jeff Iorg, president of the SBC Executive Committee. His opening session he provided lessons on raising up leaders in the church. Jeff shared, "future leaders are the lost today" and encouraged pastors to realize their "leaders five years from now are those who are net yet saved." Jeff also delivered the morning plenary message focused on Ephesians 3:7-13. I also challenged Nick Clark, SBCI Executive Director in his final challenge to encourage pastors to bring someone along next year who has an aspiration to the call of ministry.

@forthechurch@jaredcwilson@RonniKurtz I agree with Ronni Kurtz, Hebrews would be a great choice to have a desert island, for me it stands out from the very first verses and I love Hebrews 1:3 "The Son is the radiance of the glory of God, the exact expression of his nature sustaining all things by His powerful word."
The Apostle Paul's growth model was to build leaders who would build leaders. 2 Timothy 2:2 describes four generations of discipleship: Paul, Timothy, faithful men, and others also. His farewell to the Ephesian elders at Miletus (Acts 20:17–38) is essentially a succession handoff. He reminds them how he lived among them, charges them to shepherd the flock, warns them about coming threats, and commends them to God to allow the Holy Spirit to work in their church.
I am excited to be traveling to Indianapolis tomorrow to the Indiana State Convention of Baptists annual summit in Carmel, Indiana. The speakers tomorrow include Jeff Iorg, president of the SBC Executive Committee and Jason Allen, president of Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. The hope is to share the message of our ministry efforts "Follow the Call" with key leaders and be an encouragement for raising up pastors.
@scottmckain Scott, I want to wish you the best as you prepare to speak at the National FFA Convention in the next couple of days. It is my hope that students are inspired enough to take one prevailing thought you share with them back home and put it into action!

@shane_pruitt78 What is so exciting is to meet the shepherds when we get to heaven. I think we forget they would have been so impacted by what they saw and Jesus birth to follow our Lord his whole life, and I believe some of them were also part of the 500 who witnessed the resurrected Christ!
