Når stadig flere europeiske land beveger seg i en mer autoritær retning på områder knyttet til ytringsfrihet, bør ikke Norge ukritisk følge etter.

I en rettsstat skal ytringer som hovedregel møtes med motytringer, debatt og eventuelt straff i ettertid dersom loven er brutt. Ikke med forhåndssensur.

Derfor er Grunnlovens vern av ytringsfriheten så viktig.

Når terskelen gradvis flyttes fra «straff etter handling» til «inngrep for å forhindre mulige fremtidige ytringer», beveger vi oss inn på et farlig spor. For hvem avgjør til slutt hvilke ytringer som anses som for farlige, polariserende eller uønskede til å få eksistere?

Historien viser at friheten sjelden forsvinner over natten. Den flyttes bit for bit. Begrunnelse for begrunnelse. Unntak for unntak.

Et demokrati tåler sterke meninger. Det tåler kritikk. Det tåler også ubehagelige ytringer.
