Get ready for deploy: Pre-Orders for STAR WARS Zero Company will be available at 6pm PT.
@bearmccreary Your work is here brilliant as always and I've loved your use of motifs and recurring ideas in all the soundtracks you've done! Your music in Rings of Power and God of War has been an excellent example of that hard work paying off 🫡
I watched “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu”in IMAX. Back in 2019, I had only seen the opening of The “Mandalorian” while examining the LED-shot “virtual production” technology, but this time I had no problem diving in. Action, car chases, close-quarters combat, sword fights, gun battles, death matches, aerial combat, giant monsters, giant mechs. A complete “everything versus everything” showcase. CGI, puppets, special makeup, animatronics, stop motion. Even the behind-the-scenes craftsmanship feels like it has everything packed in. X-Wings, AT-ATs, AT-RTs, speeders, stormtroopers, droids. Nearly every element from across the entire history of the Star Wars saga is in as well. An entertainment spectacle made with craftsmanlike skill by Jon Favreau.
@o1dy0e@SebAaltonen It's more like there's a steep initial perf cost for like Nanite & Lumen, but in high poly budget projects it kind of evens out for the quality of rendering it has. A different engine might run better initially but past a certain point adding objects/features, UE5 (probably) wins
@sighaboutlife@Xathian1@TheMG3D One tradeoff is that you then need a texture that can cover the entire surface with UVs that are uniquely unwrapped for every place you utilize the blend texture. Whereas with vertex painting you can get away with tiled textures at lower resolution which saves VRAM/file size
The Shinogi Chess Club♟️ series is on sale! Play through Himiko's story as she participates in chess tournaments & tracks down armed resistance groups!
One of these things is not like the other... 🤔 #gamedev#indiedev#indiegame#chess#steamdeals#steam

There is no world in which this creates more jobs for artists. We were already struggling to survive before large companies felt that they could replace us with a tool. I will accept a "lowered efficiency" creating art if it means authenticity and true expression of ideas.
I used to look up to Andrew Price & he was a big reason that I was able to learn 3D art for my games. He even critiqued some of my early works on his review show long before the donut tutorial. To see that he has fallen this far and associated with a known bigot is disappointing.
However, the kind of AI that Price seems to be advocating for literally generates pixels to create compositions for you and generates detailed meshes (probably with terrible topology) based some vague prompts/images you throw at it. 3D artists have already lost jobs from this.
There's a few days left to get my action game Iron Reckoning⚔️ on sale for 60% off! While it's an older title of mine, it features a pretty unique combat mechanic with a more serious tone in story/music, so do check it out!😎 #gamedev#indiegame#indiedev

NVidia's DLSS 5 announcement stirred up a lot of reactions already, but I thought my perspective as a developer might be interesting... so I uploaded a video explaining why I think it's a disaster for the future of the industry! 😅 #gamedev#dlss5#nvidia

@Alienatedpoet17@AndrewHulshult It would not; don't confuse this with DLSS 5 or generative AI. This tech uses the tensor cores to compress texture channels allowing higher resolutions at lower VRAM cost. When trained on low-poly/surrealist textures, it will only display those original artist driven details.
@MisterAlpha444 Awesome news if true, as much as I loved AC3 and 4's parkour I think Shadows definitely raised the bar for the RPG entries and it'll be good to see something new in this setting. Just keep in mind that "same engine" does not necessarily equal same game mechanics/movement system.
Today I attended my first protest here in NJ because the racist, bigoted administration destroying our country needs to understand that this is what democracy looks like. Protect the LGBTQ+ community. Abolish ICE. Justice for Alex Pretti and Renée Good. #nokings#protest#justice
I experimented with ~10 different replacement cloud techniques, from GPU simulated particles all the way to my own volumetric shader. Nothing was working out and I didn't have the bandwidth to really invest time in it. All of that just to wrap back around to my starting idea lol
Though it might sound like a small win, I was actually stuck on this problem for over a month and thought it might ruin the project. After discovering a material setting I missed, I can now sort transparent objects behind Unity's volumetric cloud system 😅 #graphics#gamedev
