Irv Kipnes helped to build Edmonton itself, first its neighbourhoods and businesses, then its hospitals, its theatres and its concert halls.
He and his family gave on a scale this province has rarely seen. Cancer research. Heart care. The Kipnes Centre for Veterans. Edmonton's symphony, opera and ballet. The Jewish community he loved and supported all his life. There is hardly a corner of Edmonton that has not been touched by their generosity.
Our condolences to the Kipnes family and to everyone who loved him. Alberta is better because Irv Kipnes called it home.
For the first time in nearly 50 years, the 400-kilometre Tibbitt-to-Contwoyto winter ice road in NWT that connects the Far North to the rest of Canada will not be built — and climate change is not to blame.
Instead, three of the four diamond mines the ice road supplied have closed and the fourth is scheduled to wind down ahead of schedule next year due to a global crash in natural diamond prices.

Amazing news for our province. Huge $8 billion investment in our Canadian Armed Forces right here in Alberta.
Stronger Armed forces. Tens of thousands of jobs.
Cenovus to acquire Athabasca Oil for $5.7 billion
The Canadian oil patch acquisition king: first ConocoPhilips assets, then Husky, then MEG and now Athabasca. More than $50B in acquisitions/consolidations since 2017.
@CoryBMorgan Yeah, true. Density made it faster to deploy I guess. But Japan is a huge car nation and so is China lately. I think the opportunities for AB to stand out as desirable and competitive jurisdiction with this approach are big. Make it a P3 procurement to shelter AB from exposure
I’ve read this article twice and still can’t find anyone from the “oil sector” questioning the economics or even quoted. It is only the left-wing ENGO Pembina Institute that questions the economics of a pipeline in this article 🧐
Rushing major labour changes?? There has literally been, over the course of years, a supply chain summit, a supply chain task force, an inquiry, a commission, a senate study and consultations on this particular legislation. This reform has been sloooooow-walked until now because it is contentious with unions.
Mining is Alberta's future and the key to unlocking our potential as an economic superpower. That's why I met with a room full of industry leaders and investors looking to convert critical minerals into jobs and wealth that will support our nation and province for generations to come.
Responsible resource development, and cutting unnecessary red tape for new mining projects is essential to Alberta’s success.
We are blessed with incredible resources. Now, let’s put them to work to diversify our economy, create jobs, and build a stronger Alberta and Canada.
Yesterday the Canada Investment Summit wrapped up, which I was pleased to attend alongside Premier @ABDanielleSmith, Minister @nateglubish, Minister @TaraSawyer23, along with leadership from @Invest_Alberta and many others from across the province. This event brought together some of the world’s biggest investors to showcase major projects and investment opportunities in Canada.
Alberta naturally stands out as we are the economic engine of Canada with the skilled workforce, low taxes, low regulation, and resources needed for business to succeed. Every investment means new jobs that strengthen not only our province and nation, but also the incredible families who call them home.
Thank you to the business leaders, investors, and all our partners who contributed to making these days in Toronto a success!
Alberta’s strengths across aerospace, advanced manufacturing, and other sectors allow the province to support Canada's defence readiness while strengthening the broader security of North America and its allies.

A fantastic day in Toronto with Invest Alberta ahead of the Canada Investment Summit. Had the opportunity to showcase our thriving economy and join Team Alberta in closing the Toronto Stock Exchange. Proud to highlight why Alberta remains the best place to invest and grow.
Today, I joined Premier Danielle Smith, fellow Alberta ministers, Invest Alberta and provincial business leaders to close the market at the Toronto Stock Exchange and highlight the contributions our province makes the Canadian economy.
Alberta is leading economic growth, growing our workforce faster than any other province, and attracting global investment that strengthens the nation.
Seeing energy trade at near record levels shows why a stronger Alberta means a stronger Canada.
We were pleased to partner with Invest Alberta @Invest_Alberta for two exciting events today, ahead of the Canada Investment Summit tomorrow.
First, we hosted a reception for international investors, entrepreneurs, and prominent global leaders, as well as federal and provincial governments officials. I shared how Alberta’s growing economy, highly skilled workforce, strong fiscal management, low taxes, and commitment to reducing red tape makes us an incredible destination for investments in all sorts of industries.
Then we visited the Toronto Market Exchange where I had the unique honour of being the first Premier of Alberta to officially close the markets and witness energy stocks trading near record high levels!
I reminded everyone that Alberta’s doors are always open, and Canada’s finance and investment community has a standing invite to walk on in.
