It has not always been easy for the @Osprey in Italy 🦅
For decades, it almost disappeared. The loss of coastal habitats.
Nest disturbance.
Illegal hunting.
Even power lines.
And yet…something has changed.
Thanks to protected area this @raptor is slowly returning
NO FISHING!
64 km/h. A dive. Straight into the water. 🦅💥
This is how the @Osprey hunts.
From above… it locks onto its target.
A brief hover.
Then the dive, fast, precise, almost total immersion.

There’s one detail that instantly gives the @Osprey 🦅 away…
That dark ‘mask’ around the eyes.
And that intense yellow stare, impossible to miss.
Fun fact 👀
In most pairs, the female is noticeably larger than the male.

Have you ever seen a bird of prey dive into the water like a missile? 🦅💥
This is the @Osprey.
In Italy, it can also be observed in @Sardinia.
One of the few @raptors specialized in fishing:
it hovers… spots its target… and dives with incredible precision.

Far south in #Chile’s Tierra del Fuego 🌍🐧
A stable colony of King #Penguins lives here — not on Antarctic ice, but on beaches and rocky shores with direct access to the ocean.
Who else is surprised to see penguins this far from the ice? 😮
