I want to have a conversation about the word "professional" when speaking about art-makers.
First of all, who cares. Artists do all sorts of things to survive financially, and as someone who makes my living from my art, I don't think that qualifies me more than anyone else. 1/
Bill 60 will cause mass evictions. And Ford wants to come for your unit and housing security next. Email Ford and fight back at https://t.co/h3kB9RjBTZ #OnPoli#TorCen#Bill60
It's already hard enough to scrape by in Ontario. Removing security of tenure would put every renter in jeopardy of losing their home.
I cannot recall a bill in recent memory that would directly and profoundly hurt so many people.
The opposition needs to rise up.
Update: The parts of Wasaga Beach Provincial Park this Ontario government want to sell off constitute 60% of the precious beachfront land (habitat for the endangered Piping Plover" that Ontarians RECOGNIZE as Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.
This is insane. It seems clear that there is ALREADY a suitable PERMANENT home for the Ontario Science Centre Science School. It's at 770 Don Mills Rd., North York, ON M3C 1T3, and its called the Ontario Science Centre.
The Ontario government won't let them use it.
I have read all the budget papers.
@fordnation is outpacing the entire country 🇨🇦 on debt accumulation. Where is all our money going?
To private equity.
For 7 years, the Ford government has been underfunding public education, attacking teachers and slandering school boards. On the last day of school when students, parents and educators should be celebrating, the brutes announce a hostile takeover of our local boards. Graceless.
So, the Ford government, that’s mismanaged finances with blue license plates, billion $ booze obsessions, Ontario Place parking lot and science centre fiascos, court losses and massive deficit and debt loads, is taking over elected school boards to restore “financial stability”?
🚨 BREAKING: Doug Ford’s Trump-style power grab is racing through Queen’s Park.
This week, the Ford gov't is fast-tracking 7 bills—cutting debate short, skipping committee scrutiny, and trying to ram through Bill 5, which would grant massive new “special economic zone” powers.
For context, Doug Ford became the premier of Ontario in 2018 and since then, public education and healthcare have been on a steady decline. Needless to mention other social services #onpoli
MPP Sandy Shaw: "I have never received in such a
short time so many emails with people opposed to Bill 5 and wanting to know in what way they can engage with this government to make clear that what is happening here is an affront to their sense of decency and to their sense of democracy."
🚨 Doug Ford’s Bill 5 is an assault on democracy, Treaty rights and the environment in Ontario.
Environmental defenders, civil liberties advocates, & Indigenous leaders are linking arms to stop Bill 5 before it wipes out the Endangered Species Act and take away our rights.
From gutting environmental protections to ignoring the voices of Indigenous communities and municipalities, Doug Ford’s Bill 5 is dangerous.
‘The worst piece of legislation in a generation’: 100 organizations oppose Ford’s Bill 5 https://t.co/dndcKsZdy3
I would ask @fordnation to walk into Flemingdon Park and repeat this line to students at Marc Garneau Collegiate Institute.
Doug ripped out a historic gem in the heart of East York. The least he could do is acknowledge the weight of his actions.
