JD Vance: ‘if you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again”
Hegseth: “VP: I fully share your loathing of European free-loading. It’s PATHETIC."
Another wake up call for a real European Defence..when will EU leaders act?
@carlbildt This is eerily similar to the ideas of the third reich and lebensraum. The same logic and same excuse of protecting the sea lanes could just as easily be applied in future to annex other strategically placed small islands with small populations and no real military forces 🇮🇸🇮🇪2/2
@carlbildt The vice president of the United States talking seriously about the annexation of the territory of an ally like its the most normal thing in the world. The excuse of national security is being used as well as “helping” Greenland exploit their natural resources. 1/2
thread sums up views & concerns of so many Europeans. We owe much to US leadership globally for more than a century.
The trans Atlantic 2 way partnership has lead & protected democratic values, fuelled economic growth & global trade.
So much is being put at risk today. For what?
@RoryStewartUK@campbellclaret Option 3 imo. European nations need to look after themselves. It’s dangerous to be dependent on countries that may change from partners to adversaries.
The war, the geopolitical uncertainty and the new arms race started by Putin have left Europe with no choice. Europe must be ready for this race, and Russia will lose it like the Soviet Union 40 years ago. From today, Europe will arm itself more wisely and faster than Russia.
Europe must save Ukraine, build a stronger common defence (with the UK), restore economic dynamism—without reversing the green transition—and tackle the inequalities driving voters to populists. Germany has to lead. Read @fromTGA 📝

@McFaul I think he wanted a quick end at any cost because he is fixated with getting a Nobel peace prize. This week’s shameful display was all for one man’s vanity imo.
Negotiations with Ukraine appear to have collapsed for now, jeopardizing President Trump’s pledge to bring a quick end to the war — and perhaps spoiling his best shot at winning an award that has been on his mind for years. https://t.co/4BF4mFQ5or
@NBCNews That’s the real reason behind the disgusting ambush in the Oval Office. The orange clown thinks he deserves a Nobel prize 🤣🤣🤣🇺🇦🇪🇺 #SlavaUkraini
There is no dignity nor consistency with the strategy interests of the United States in attempting to humiliate a democratically elected European leader.
We are entering a totally new era.
For us French, thanks to General de Gaulle, the transatlantic relationship has never been the sole horizon of our security.
A strategic update is now inevitable for Europeans: The creation of a European Security Council, the consolidation of our defense industry and the European reflex in our purchasing.
And, of course, our solidarity with @ZelenskyyUa and the Ukrainian people.
