@Dan4Barnet The Blame Game - Why have #LoanCharge scandal victims taken all the blame while #HMRC allow the Promoters Walk free?

@ProfLAppleby It was years after HMRC's hard-line retrospective #LoanCharge tax policy, amid mounting suicides, that they began 'partnering with' Samaritans, redirecting desperate callers who managed to get through on their phone line. Neither the gaslighting HMRC letters nor suicides abated.
'A clear injustice that has tragically led to suicides.' When I wrote this, 9 suicides were linked to the #loancharge. Tragically, the number of reported suicides now stands at 11.
We did warn you if they got away with retro tax once, they’d do it again.
Retrospective tax is an affront to natural justice and the rule of law.
#loanchargescandal
@Dan4Barnet Change can indeed be frustratingly slow @Dan4Barnet, the #LoanChargeScandal will not be resolved by your failed 'independent' #McCannReview, but we WILL keep fighting for justice. The families who've lost parents to 11 #LoanChargeSuicides, and many more at risk, deserve more.
@Dan4Barnet Get a grip of the civil servants who are killing people with the retrospective #LoanChargeScandal - that review is hopelessly flawed. You clearly do not understand enough about it.
@LC_2019_Scandal@ContractorNews_@RachelReevesMP There it is again, with that word 'independent' (review, inquiry or enquiry - whatever). The #LoanCharge direction of travel is for Govt never to allow such without already knowing the outcome. Or eventually face a messy #POHorizon kind of reckoning...
@ContractorNews_ Thank you so much, a fab article, a strong message to the current Government that the only option now is to have an independent enquiry into this whole debacle! Far too many people have been affected, to late for 11 souls (that we know of!) Take note @RachelReevesMP !
@nobigfish@ContractorNews_@jamesmurray_ldn@HouseofCommons When Opposition MPs are assigned Treasury minister posts in Govt, it is painfully obvious that personal and political survival become hitched to prevailing HMT and HMRC mindsets. Both of which are painfully aware that the #LoanCharge is a can of worms that must remain sealed.
@TheRising_Moon@gregwrightYP@yorkshirepost As we know from recent FOI, the #LoanCharge policy is costing roughly four times as much as the revenues recovered. Therefore money was never the main aim. Loan promoters and enablers consistently not targeted. But contractors and SMEs herded forcefully back to PAYE under MTD.
@TheRising_Moon@gregwrightYP@yorkshirepost Three #LoanCharge reviews to date - HMT review under Theresa May, watered down to a slim templated HMRC report, Morse under Boris Johnson's tenure, and McCann under Starmer. Each descoped, then key recommendations worked around by Govt, HMT & HMRC. All to protect a failed policy
@salltweets James Murray will say whatever is politically expedient to hang onto the gravy train.
His callus disregard for #loancharge victims is one example.
@TheRising_Moon@gregwrightYP@yorkshirepost The biggest mistake HMRC repeatedly makes with #LoanChargeScandal? As proven - yet again, with staged McCann 'independent' review, when they double down and give too many people no way out, then it perpetuates the very barriers to settlement that such reviews seek to resolve.,.
