A fruitful and incredible team sprit moment with my collogues @africa_amani on reviewing and detecting insight the work we accomplished in half year of 2026.
We took time to collectively assess and learn from the work undertaken since the begining of the year. It was also an occasion to reflect on how to sustain being intentional about the welfare of the @africa_amani team and how to balance between the increase in demand for our work and the supply dimension of the resource and staffing requirements for meeting the demand while consolidating and keeping focus on our core areas of work.
Yesterday, a team of Amani Africa had the pleasure of being received by H.E. Dr @GHessebon of @MFAEthiopia. Grateful for the productive exchanges on the work of Amani Africa and various areas for close collaboration including the reform of the @_AfricanUnion & Dr Gedion's role as President of COP32 particulalry in relation to our areas of work as well as on nurturing a dynamic multilateral policy ecosysem for deepening the status of Addis Ababa as a premier diplomatic hub.
📢Breaking news: Ethiopia leading the charge for enhanced ownership of AU financing
In a move applauded as exmplary and a major boost for the push for increased financing of the AU, Ethiopia's Minister of Forein Affairs H.E. @GHessebon announced Ethiopia's decision to voluntarily join tier one of the AU member states that make the most assessed contributions dunding the @_AfricanUnion.
It looks like that this announcement prompted Kenya, which was considering the matter, to make the same announcement in an intervention on the first agenda of the 49th Ordinary Session of the Executive Council that kicked off in Addis Ababa earlier today.
It is to be recalled that Angola announced its decision to remain in tier one during the AU summit in February 2026.
The addition these states expands the number of states in thr traditionally so-called big five tier one AU member states to eight. Other tier one member states are Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa.
Burundi, chair of the AU for 2026, also announced a decision for implementing the AU decision on collecting the 0.2% levy for funding of the AU.
Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, alongside high-level government officials and Ethiopian National Dialogue Commission leadership, toured an exhibition tracing the four-year journey of the National Dialogue process.

Representing 🇪🇹, the incoming host of #COP32, H.E. Amb Lemlem Fiseha , PR of the FDRE to the @_AfricanUnion and #UNECA, reaffirmed Africa's commitment to ensuring that climate action remains firmly anchored in sustainable development.
She emphasized:
"We believe our response should remain firmly anchored in development rather than securitization."
Looking ahead to Ethiopia's hosting of #COP32, she further underscored:
"The discussion on security implications of adverse impacts of climate change should be used to increase the alarm to urge more climate action and amplify the decisions of the climate process, including mitigation and adaptation as global overriding priorities."

The African Union’s anthem & flag were both originally conceived by #Ethiopians.
🇪🇹 Poet Laureate Tsegaye Gabre-Medhin wrote the anthem, and artist Yadesa Bojia designed the AU flag-another lasting Ethiopian contribution to Africa’s unity, cooperation, and beauty.
"If they don't give you a seat at the table, bring your own folding chair." 🪑 Trevor Noah and PM Mia Mottley discuss how Ethiopia’s #GERD is a "21st-century Adwa victory," built through self-reliance and domestic funding to bring clean energy to 130M+ people. A true blueprint for sovereignty! 🇪🇹#Ethiopia #GERD #Adwa #TrevorNoah #MiaMottley #EBC

Ethiopia should enshrine its Nile River and Red Sea interests into its constitution—🤔🤔
Many countries enshrine core national interests—territorial integrity, water rights, strategic resources—within constitutional frameworks. Ethiopia, its thinkers argue, should do the same. Codifying the Nile and Red Sea as non-negotiable pillars of national sovereignty could provide three benefits.
First, it would anchor long-term policy beyond the volatility of party politics. No governing coalition could dilute Ethiopia’s riparian rights or maritime ambitions under foreign pressure.
Second, it would act as a filter within the democratic process. Political parties seeking office would have to articulate coherent strategies on water security, port access and regional diplomacy—issues too often sidelined in favour of ethnic patronage or short-term populism.
Third, it would serve as a civic glue. At a moment when Ethiopian politics remain deeply polarised, a shared national doctrine on the Nile and the Red Sea could offer a rare consensus—one grounded not in ethnicity, but in collective survival. https://t.co/UIYh9Tdq3D
