Many people either overbuy or underbuy tiles because they don’t know the simple method to calculate it. Let’s break it down step by step using a standard room size.

ROOM SIZE
Length = 3.6 m
Width = 3.0 m

First, calculate the FLOOR AREA

Area = Length × Width
Area = 3.6 × 3.0 = 10.8 m²

Now you know your room is 10.8 square meters.

Next, you need to know the SIZE OF YOUR TILE.
Let’s assume you are using a common tile size of 600 mm by 600 mm
Convert to meters

0.6 m × 0.6 m = 0.36 m² per tile

Now calculate NUMBER OF TILES

Number of tiles = Total area ÷ Area of one tile
= 10.8 ÷ 0.36
= 30 tiles

Now let’s convert to CARTONS

Most 600 by 600 tiles come 4 pieces per carton

Number of cartons = 30 ÷ 4
= 7.5 cartons

Since you cannot buy half carton, you round up

You will need 8 cartons

Now add WASTAGE

Always add about 5 to 10 percent for cutting and breakage

8 cartons + 1 extra carton = 9 cartons total

FINAL ANSWER
You need about 9 cartons of tiles for a 3.6 m by 3.0 m room

This method helps you plan properly and avoid wasting money.
