I think worship is rarely sweeter and more heartfelt than in times of trial, because when suffering enters your door, God is often in the process of removing physical treasures that compete with himself for the captivation of your heart.
As you face the new year, remember:
-God’s grace has no expiration date
- He is always near
- He looks on you with love
- His mercies are always new
- He delivers what you need
- He is in complete control.
“They do not cry to me from the heart, but they wail upon their beds; for grain and wine they gash themselves.” Hosea 7:14
Tears over the consequences of sin are not tears over sin.
It’s not enough to only believe in life after death. We need to believe in real hope of life before death. The Gospel makes a difference in the here and now.
“Occasionally, weep deeply over the life that you hoped would be. Grieve the losses. Feel the pain. Then wash your face, trust God, and embrace the life that He’s given you.” – John Piper
3 things to remember when relationships get messy:
1. God never gets a wrong address.
2. God is in the middle of the mess with you.
3. God is up to something good in the mess.
Your trials are not accidental, believer.
Your trials are *appointed* (2 Cor. 12).
They are given you to draw you closer to God.
They are given you to wean you from the world.
They are given you to produce humility.
They are given you by a loving Father to purify you.
The God who will take us where we didn’t plan to go in order to produce in us what we couldn’t achieve on our own will also give us the grace to hang in there as he uses the messy disappointment of relationships to change and grow us and others.
While there is still time.
“Return, faithless Israel,
declares the Lord.
I will not look on you in anger,
for I am merciful,
declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 3:12
We are saddened to inform friends that our dear brother, Voddie Baucham, Jr., has left the land of the dying and entered the land of the living. Earlier today, after suffering an emergency medical incident, he entered into his rest and the immediate presence of the Savior whom he loved, trusted, and served since he was converted as a college student. Please pray for Bridget, their children, and grandchildren.
Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints. – Psalm 116:15
