The BJP agent CAG Vinod Rai alleged that there was ₹1.86 lakh crore loss to Govt of India, in coal allocations and now the case is closed by Delhi court after the CBI couldn't produce a shred of evidence.

The BJP has now come up with a new narrative that the UPA government issued oil bonds, and the BJP government is now paying them back. According to them, this shows Modiji’s magnanimity, as if he is doing a favour to the people of India by not raising fuel prices.

First, oil bonds were not started by the UPA. They were introduced in 2002 by the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to subsidise petrol and diesel prices.

When the UPA came to power, crude oil prices were extremely high, above $100 and even touching $140 at times. To avoid passing the full burden onto the public, the government continued issuing oil bonds to raise money from the market while keeping fuel prices relatively under control. The easier option would have been to simply raise prices and make people pay more.

The oil bonds issued during the Vajpayee government matured in 2009 and were repaid. Similarly, bonds maturing in the following years were also repaid by the UPA government itself until 2014.

Dear @BJP4India,

Actual cost of Petrol is ₹40 two weeks ago, with $60 Crude Oil price. You were selling it for ₹110. Diesel is ₹41 and you were selling at ₹95.

UPA Govt was selling Petrol at ₹78 and Diesel at ₹54, when the Crude price was at $110-140 range.

UPA collected 5.96 lakh Cr in Excise duty from Petrol and Diesel in 10 years, whereas BJP collected 26.71 lakh Cr in 11 years. In 2021 alone, they collected 5 lakh Cr.

And came the cheap Russian crude we were buying for $45 per barrel, and no benefit was passed on to people of India. Instead a handful of fat cats benefited from it.

All the countries you quoted passed on the benefits of cheap crude to their people, except Modi. He charged people as if the crude was priced at $140 while it was less than half of it.

Now you want to us believe that you are subsidizing this price rise, whereas are your profits from a few years has reduced a wee bit in two weeks. Such shameless party you are.
