We get ensnared in mimetic rivalry (ie Rene Girard) when we believe our outrage is more valid than their outrage, when their violence is worse than our violence, when their cause is wrong and ours is righteous.

This is how the Powers and Principalities play us like a record.

Some want to keep immigration out of the Christmas story. But for generations, Christians have connected the Holy Family’s flight to Egypt with the experience of refugees.

"Critics of the refugee analogy have to find a way to separate the jostled Jesus, quickly scooped up and carried to a foreign locale, from other startled children forced to abandon all they know. They want to convince us that these people are different and do not deserve the kind of compassion due to Mary and Joseph...but eyes are not so easily closed."
