This is the worst kind of reporting. Cheerleading failure while getting the story wrong.

The real story is that we are more than a decade past declaring a massive crisis, we still don't know how many people are desperate for the help we aren't providing, and Multnomah County isn't even close.

When I started at the county 8 years ago, we spent $70 million on homelessness and 79 people had died on the streets the past year. We lamented that 411 people had died in total since 2011, when we first started counting. Now the county's investing literally hundreds of millions each year and the county just released its report that 456 people died in 2023.

I didn't see the Oregonian covering the memorial last night where hundreds of people gathered to pay tribute to those who had died. No sign of county leadership either. Can't say I was surprised.

The Oregonian hasn't even begun to inform the public about what's really happening with the homeless situation in our city and county. It's just acted as a press release transcription service. There's no accountability because they only seem to care about the people issuing the press releases, not the people those press releases are supposed to be about. This article takes the cake.

My extended family has been thrown into a hellish nightmare. My nephew and his wife, who live in Boston, just had their two sons taken from them in the middle of the night by CPS. Their sons are 6 months old, and 3 1/2. A baby and a toddler, the baby still nursing.
