@TraysonL Oh! Well I appreciate it lmao. I’m sure Totk will be great. For all the slack I give BotW, the fellas at Nintendo are still competent designers, and I’m sure they understand it’s flaws just as much as I do.
its interesting looking at promotional material for Ocarina of time and realizing that it being 'the greatest video game of all time' was a narrative constructed and marketed to people even before it released. you don't see that kind of dynamism and confidence in marketing now

apparently this was an intentional design decision on their part, there is no reason it had to be like that. its really quite convoluted. god i love zelda 1
@cdranzer87@DDwili 2001. My first decade was almost entirely gba/ds/gamecube. The zelda collectors edition anthology was where I spend a decent chunk of my time
@cdranzer87@DDwili If someone is particularly inept with navigating 3d space or more buttons on a controller it can for sure require more from them personally then a 2d game. but undeniably oot bends over backwards to help you as much as it possibly can in this respect.
Don’t get me wrong, I like oot for a lot of reasons, the art, the story, the nascent gameplay systems. But omfg, its gameplay structure is a poorly thought out vestige of a nes game thats held together with padding and deliberately sabotaged by the scenario writers at every turn
@cdranzer87@DDwili What the fuck does Its innovative 3d systems have to do with what I said. If anything it bends over backward even more for casuals in part to compensate for its 3d novelty
@DDwili you have no perspective at all, the dividing line in your pea brain between what counts as a 'newgen baby game' and whats 'for hardcore gamers' is whenever you turned 18
@DDwili this is a hilarious thing to say to me of all people.
its also my favorite brand of delusional. Ocarina of time was in 1998 a simplification/streamlining of design for a more casual audience. Yellow paint is famously the secondary protagonist of the game.
