If your role is in ESL, ESOL, or bilingual education, you might have experienced moments when it felt like your work was undervalued. Let’s be real, certain policies and practices can send unintended messages:
•Being placed in undesirable locations like hallways or closets to teach
•Being given outdated materials or little to no funding for resources
•Being pulled from instruction to complete menial or unrelated tasks

But here’s the truth: your role as an educator of future global leaders is absolutely vital. Students, families, and colleagues are watching you and learning from you.

Never forget how incredible you are and how essential your work is. Be proud of the way you shape multilingual minds and create opportunities that ripple far beyond your classroom.

Multilingual learners flourish when instruction is deliberately infused with language. When every lesson in each content area provides opportunities for students to listen, speak, read, write, and interact, students have greater chances of becoming successful linguistically and academically.
