A few weeks ago @Brave released a paid, minimalist version of their web browser… and I think this was a fantastic move.

Developing a piece of software like Brave takes a lot of resources. And, realistically, there are two key ways to fund that work:

1) Build revenue generating features (services, advertising, etc.) into the software or…

2) Make the software a traditional paid product (which removes the need for those revenue generating features).

What Brave has done here is give users the choice. And choice is good.

Want a free browser with a bunch of extras (which you may or may not want)? It’s right there.

Want to pay for a streamlined, minimalist web browser without all of those features? Boom. You can do that too.

Bonus: Linux users get the paid “Brave Origin” version for free. Though I’m inclined to pick up a copy anyway… both to support the work Brave is doing, and to get an Android version of Brave Origin.

Just Meta (Instagram, Facebook, and so on) still hasn’t fixed their AI. It’s still mass-banning any account that gets mass-reported and randomly denying appeals. There’s no fix for this, and Meta is just ignoring the issue.

You only get unbanned if you upload a picture of yourself and have your real name and date of birth visible on the account — even though none of that is required when signing up. Meta is in total shambles right now.
First there was the exploit to take over any account, then the ban exploit, then the exploit to see everyone’s private phone number and email. What’s next? An exploit to read private messages with just the username? 😂
