The German car industry is suffering even more and has gone into a death spiral.

Volkswagen is planning to cut up to 100,000 jobs and end production at four plants in Germany.

Energy costs and the rapid advance of Chinese competition are killing the German car industry.

The Wolfsburg-based company also wants to reduce its car manufacturing capacity in Germany by 500,000 units.

The death spiral manifests in selling assets and further layoffs, which lead to more asset sales and site closures … and repeat.

VW is now selling off its marine engines unit Everllence to US private equity firm Bain, generating proceeds of €7.4bn. This can close the gaps for a while. But what then?

“The impression that a political trial was being conducted was reinforced by the fact that the Dutch prosecution took no action against those in Ukraine who were responsible for keeping the airspace open for civil aviation.

It did not even launch a criminal investigation into the decision-making in this regard. The Dutch government has taken the same stance. It has held Russia but not Ukraine responsible for the downing of MH17.

At least sixteen fighter jets, transport planes and helicopters of the Ukrainian military had been downed before July 17, 2014. Had the airspace in the east of the country been closed to civil aviation, there would not have been a #MH17 crash.

The relatives of the Dutch victims followed the line that was set out by the Dutch authorities. Their personal injury lawyers advised them to spare Ukraine and to take legal action only against Russia, the author of this book revealed.

For a case against Russia at the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), they were offered a win-no fee arrangement and additional legal aid subsidies by the Dutch government.

A case against Kiev for having kept Ukrainian airspace open would have required them to pay entirely for themselves. The only ones who ended up suing Ukraine at the ECHR were relatives of German victims. Their case has still not been heard. The case of the Dutch state and relatives has been. The first hearing was in 2022.

The Dutch authorities knew about the air war in Donbass, but they did not take any actions.

They continued to allow aircraft carrying Dutch passengers to fly over Eastern Ukraine, even after they had been informed on July 14 by the Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Pavlo Klimkin, that on that day a high-altitude military transport plane had been shot down by a system which, according to Kiev, was more powerful than anything the insurgents had fired up to that point. (The Dutch airline KLM had sold seats for Malaysia Airlines’ flight MH17 and kept conducting its own flights over Eastern Ukraine).

Is this why the Dutch government never took any legal action against the Ukrainian state? If one knew how dangerous things were in Ukrainian airspace without notifying its own airlines, one is in a bad position to take legal action against Ukraine.”
