“What the best and wisest parent wants for his own child, that must the community want for all of its children. Any other ideal for our schools is narrow and unlovely; acted upon, it destroys our democracy.” Dewey (1915)
Effective teachers are not naive about their challenges… but they focus on what they can control -- the quality of their instruction to students and the quality of their interaction with students.
Schools are microcosms of society; we see a world that is broken, that impacts the hearts, souls, and minds of our young people.
YET teachers, counselors, leaders, and staff aren’t afraid to show that there is something far greater. LOVE! GRACE! FORGIVENESS!
I was listening to a podcast today and the guy said…
Even if it was just you here, Jesus would have still come.
What a powerful thought. This stuck out to me today and I thought I’d share. ❤️
Holding students accountable and demonstrating compassion are not incompatible notions.
You can always extend grace while you provide discipline. You can always respect their dignity while you administer consequences.
SE Christian is doing a series called, “At the Movies.” Today’s message was based on Romans 15:7 and used the movie, Otto, which on a side note is great movie.
Jay here has a tip for all movie goers! Popcorn, drink, candy…it all fits in the belt of your pants.🤦♀️😂
We’ve traveled, said our goodbyes, visited family, and landed back where we consider home!
Called in the big dog to get us home from Guatemala (thanks, Dad!) and I officially started today in my new role.
Thankful for great people that make transitions like these happen. ❤️❤️
I went from being a HS principal to serving as a teacher in Guatemala.
It was beautiful. Don’t hesitate if you need/want to serve in this way. Run toward the opportunity!
This experience will end soon and I’d love to help others experience this. ❤️
Ps. It’s warm all year!😃
The best teachers have 3 things in common: they are all about the kids; they are relentless about getting better; and they bring good energy into their classroom. .
❤️❤️
The second pic may look pretty calm but in reality…there are two students sitting at my feet and I’m holding 3 peanuts and an Oreo in my hand that they gave me. ❤️🤦♀️🤣
I want to remember these moments.
Sometimes God has to do something unusual to get your attention. ✅Yes!
Sometimes he needs to remove the distractions of the world. ✅Yes!
God uses the weak and foolish. ✅Yes!
Beautiful song from this morning! As I’ve said before, worship music is my love! ❤️
Ya no soy un esclavo del temor
Yo soy hijo de Dios
Even though you might not understand all the words, you might understand a few. Give it a listen. https://t.co/sS8TZcmZKZ
I couldn’t get a great pic but I’m not sure there’s anything greater than watching your child worship. Jay loves to sing most Sundays and he’s beautiful to watch when he does. ❤️
Ps. I say “most Sundays” because he’s 8 and well, 8 yo boys sometimes get the wiggles. 😂😜
I’ve only worn traditional dress twice but you better believe I take lots of pics when I do! It’s hot, very difficult to use the bathroom in, and they cinch the belt like a corset. 😃
The first graders had their presentations of Guatemalan culture today and they were beautiful.
