Exactly at this time last year, a customer of mine helped me by resharing pictures of my cake slices on her WhatsApp status.

A few days later, I got a message from an unknown number. She told me she had saved my contact from Helen's status (that's my customer's name).

The lady who messaged me is into events. Her customer needed a cake vendor for a get-together, so she wanted to get my cake slices for her customer to taste. If she liked them, they would proceed with bulk orders.
She placed the order to be delivered the next day. I delivered it, and I was praying so hard for the visibility that would definitely push my cake brand.

She dropped a review. Her customer liked the cake, but there was an issue. I was so sad 🥹🥹

A few weeks later, she messaged me saying she wanted cake slices for her customer to taste again. But cake slices were not available, so I told her I only had cake parfaits presently for immediate delivery. She made payment for a cake parfait, and I delivered it again.

Day 1, 2, 3... there I was waiting for a review 🥹🥹🤣 God abeg o. I really didn't want to pressure her about the review or what the next step was.

She messaged me back on day 5, saying that they would proceed with the order, but they needed a discount. She said another vendor had agreed to sell for 2k, while my own cake parfait was sold for 3k back then. Ha! For this bowl size of cake parfait? My head spun.

I won't lie, I was so looking forward to being their cake vendor for that big day. Imagine me serving over 100 new people my cake 🥹. But if I accepted the amount they called, I would be running at a big loss. Is business not meant for profit? Especially with all the stress I would be going through.

That was how I lost my biggest deal last year.
My hopes were so high, but I had to let go. Honestly, the lady tried her best for me to get the job, but there was little she could do about it—she had to obey her customer. She has personally bought a lot of cakes from me since then. I appreciate her efforts a lot.
