Geographers, journalists, academics, etc. still use words like remote, far, distant, etc. without citing where is the centre of their map. We have imagined audiences when we write. We also have imagined maps.

To most, Dec 29 is just another day between Christmas and New Years. But for American Indians like me, it's the day 146 Sioux were massacred at Wounded Knee. 100 years would pass before the U.S. apologized. We have a duty to commemorate the victims and atone for that injustice.
