@TheRealHoarse Take your emotions out of the equation and the decision is easy. Successful entrepreneurs make decisions based on data, not emotions. If the cost benefit analysis of paying $8 outweighs the cons, then you have your answer.
@Emilyam57081420 @saraaaaajean I'll pretend your comment was made in good faith. When it comes to depreciating assets like cars, electronics, furniture, etc. I agree - save and buy for cash. SL's are investments, so saving now to buy later delays your rate of return. With anything, don't invest in junk.
@betsy514@jacksonbarnett Fair point. But I think for >99% of debtors, wiping out student loans is a pipe dream. Compounding the problem is debtors can't afford to litigate SL debt and BK attorneys can't afford to litigate against the Gov't for free. Oh, and even if debtor wins the Gov't will appeal it $$
@justagu71135181@jacksonbarnett I don't think colleges are immune to market force changes. In KS, our state colleges get partial funding from the state which was recently cut and tuition rose. The state budget is dictated by many factors including Fed gov't spending projects and US economy. Domino effect.
@justagu71135181@jacksonbarnett I think markets tend to act rationally given a long enough timeline. If SL's were suddenly dischargeable in BK, I can see markets acting emotionally and tuition increasing. There might be fear that everyone with a SL will file BK which historically is not grounded in fact.
@justagu71135181@jacksonbarnett I can see tuition marginally increasing in the short term then stabilizing. Creditors generally build in % expected losses into loan terms. Student loans (SL) are an anomaly in this regard. Less than 1% of population files BK every year. Effect of SL BK Discharge would be minimal
@betsy514@jacksonbarnett In the District of Kansas where I practice you have to file an Adversary Proceeding to determine dischargeability. The undue hardship burden under the Brunner test is extremely challenging. Litigation is expensive and the DOE has unlimited resources. Debtors cannot afford this.
@LawrenceKSTimes The drive-thru at this location is always busy and appears to move quickly. Should be more than enough income to support a $15/hr+ minimum wage. Good luck.
@Ho8Go8L1N Maybe they are busy drafting language for the constitutional amendment to create term limits. They will call it the Congress is Not a Career amendment and it will have enormous public support.
@atty_hux I wish I had read these words years ago. I did not pass the first time by 2 points and felt like a failure. Devastating. I'm open about it now but it made me second guess my entire decision to go to law school and if I was even capable of being a lawyer. It really messes with you
