Do cities like Bengaluru deserve an open source connected Digital Twin?
Bengaluru has been an ever expanding global city due to the boom in tech development and naturally drawing more people towards itself than it can absorb, and it won’t be a surprise if this city fails to deliver the urban live ability standards that the citizens expect, and collapse under its own pride! Traffic and drain management, bad urban planning, ecological imbalance due to encroachment, all of these have been the evils of this city. People do not have a voice and fail to hold accountability due to the lack of data to prove these aspects and armtwist the governance to sustainably develop the city for future generations!
So, what is the ultimate solution for this?
An open source connected digital twin that runs in two modes
1. Passive Simulation in the Loop :
Behavioral Analytics of future breakdown points, optimization of factors like road lengths and widths, infrastructure installations, electricity and water demand estimation, demarcation of water and forest bodies, etc.
2. Active Real Time Loop : With 6G in the horizon, we can expect Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) with which real time cameras can relay data to a centralized Control and Command Station) and V2X data from vehicles can help perform AI Driven real time traffic control (VAC)!
What are the upsides of building such a model?
1. Dataset for Researchers to study and analyze various data driven approaches for sustainable development, new research and skilled employment opportunities
2. Crowdsourced data can involve citizens, make them tech savvy and participate in the community to seek accountability
3. Freeflowing Traffic for ease of commute and rapid acceleration of human resource
Who has built it and who can build it here?
Such twins are in use already in major cities like NYC, Tokyo, Shenzhen, Helsinki etc. and have generated huge intelligence for generations to come!
Companies like NVIDIA, LivNSense, Instangles are having huge expansion plans in Bengaluru and can really capture the market by providing tools and algorithms to make this happen!
