@SardaxS I'm most familiar with cherry blossom through Japanese culture. However, I've just learned that in China, they represent love and the female mystique of strength, sexuality, and beauty. How appropriate!
@PBs_slutbucket @medboyUK There is no apparent mechanism for a non-VAT registered person to deduct VAT. If if were permitted, that would deprive the tax authorities of VAT revenue. They're usually not too keen on that ๐
@PBs_slutbucket @medboyUK My (limited) understanding of that framework is that the digital service is wholly liable for all aspects of VAT. To avoid double taxation, a VAT-registered content creator would be deemed to have already paid VAT and can therefore deduct that liability thereby cancelling it out.
@PBs_slutbucket @medboyUK Absolutely. It's not the actual VAT charge itself that irks me. It's that OF have sprung this unannounced and with no explanation or softening of the message.
There's a risk that, as a result of hacking people off, subscribers will leave, thereby reducing income for creators.
@WormAlfie@medboyUK Paperwork is simplified by the VAT MOSS scheme, whereby the company deals with only one tax authority rather than individual tax authorities of relevant member states where consumption has arisen.
A proportion of VAT revenues is paid by each member state to the EU.
@WormAlfie@medboyUK VAT for digital services within EU/UK accrues to the member state where the service is consumed. So a UK consumer contributes to UK tax coffers, a French consumer to French tax coffers etc.
